Yeah, that free market rhetoric sounds great until you realize that the government is using the health department to threaten businesses with financial ruin if they refuse to comply so that polticians can claim "they're just exercising their right to regulate their own private property" even if the owners absolutely don't want to be mask Nazis.
This is what is happening in NY. Bars and restaurants are pretty strict with enforcing the rules because King Cuomo will send his Gestapo to shut you down and pull your liquor license if you get caught breaking his rules. They consider it as serious as serving people alcohol under 21.
The business my mom works at has been struggling with this issue. She's 75 and has complained to me several times about how the masks make it harder for her to breathe. Neither she or the owners want to put up with this bullshit at all, but they can't afford to get shut down. The kicker is she told me yesterday that three members of the owner's family have the virus now. All of this ridiculous liberty-crushing regulation, financial burden and extra effort it takes to keep things sanitized, and it didn't even stop the spread (not that it ever had the slightest chance of doing that). Fuck Coonman. Fuck all these goddamn socialist tyrants.
