Once you're owned, you can either sign up to the party and get a lot more forbidden sex and millions in income or get destroyed and in many cases suicided.
Also he would fly back to his home in New York instead of sleeping in some random place, although maybe that started after he found out about this stuff.
Incidentally if you don't sleep in your own bed or a place you feel safe then one side of your brain will stay awake to watch for danger so it's a good idea anyway.
