Apple would never have gotten into cellphones... and we might not have had cellphones for a few decades more! When AT&T was broken up, competition erupted, and the mid 90's was where telecommunications absolutely went wild with advancements and rolling out of tools & technology to feed the growing global demand for communication & the things that make communication work.
AT&T has merged with enough media companies now, that it is large again, but it's not about size...it's about monopolistic control, which is nothing like what they used to have. Back when 'Ma Bell was running things, you had two choices for telphones, beige or black, and that was literally it.
