But if it's not even your own $$$ on the line, there seems to be little, if any incentive to not violate terms of said bail.
You're missing the point of bail bondsmen. The business has money on the line so if you don't show up to court, they hunt you down. The amount of man power it would take for the state to do this is immense, it's not really feasible. With bail bondsmen, it privatizes the work load and spreads it out across many different small businesses.
Seems to be a trend amongst these heinous killings. Coward takes an innocent life or a few, then immediate regret sets in and they realize they fucked up permanently. Then off themselves or get killed by cops
