I want a KSG or a KS7. Dream gun is a Tavor TS12. However... I have a model 1100 sitting in my closet. Got off the phone with Remington with a series of part numbers to turn this into a home defense weapon.
Any advice from some of you more experienced gun owners?
1100 is a great gun, spend the money on making it “go-fast” and spend the rest on ammo and training vs another gun. Learn its idiotsyncracies. Light/laser combo is a big plus.
Define "go-fast". I have an idea of what you mean but lets pretend I'm an idiot. Explain it like I'm new.
1100 is the older model Remington semiautomatic shotgun, replaced by the 11-87 in (would you believe?) 1987.
So it most likely still has the original wood furniture.
Replace the wood stock and formed with polymer tactical pieces. Stock might have built in shell holders, might be AR- style, depending on your needs and budget. Fore end might have rail or a lot mounts for accessories like laser, high-lumen light, etc. you might want to change out the stock hunting barrel for a shorter barrel for more maneuverability.
That helps! Thank you.
Follow up questions. Do you know if the parts for an 870 are interchangeable with an 1100? I'm assuming yes to a degree as a few of the part numbers given to me by Remington are for an 870 though the guy knew I was working with an 1100.
The parts that interchange are limited, as the 870 is a pump and the 11xx is autoloading. You would have to find a parts list for both online and compare them side-by-side for commonality.
STRICTLY as an example and completely as a mental exercise: it is entirely possible that some parts from one MAY work on the second, but the same parts from the second will NOT work on the first. I am not saying this is the case with yours, but it is possible. That would require the expertise of a gunsmith or Remington Armorer, and is really information that is for TEOTWAWKI. Otherwise just buy the correct parts while there is availability. Another great question for an armorer is a list of parts most likely to break so you can build a spare parts kit. . .
Now, I do not have a Rem Shotgun, a friend has an 1100, which I helped him get into operation over a dozen years ago, so I am working from faulty memory on most of this.
Even with a faulty memory there are grains of truth. Thanks for the information. It is appreciated more than you know.
We all need to help each other out!🇺🇸👍
An extended magazine for your 1100 would work and maybe a shorter barrel but those will be expensive and probably hard to find
It is all available and not hard to get. Just costs money. Shorter barrel 18.5" barrel w/ improved choke is $195. Tactical stock and fore end with recoil pad and screws are about another $200. Extended magazine is another $100.
That is what Remington quoted me.
Check supply of those things.
