He was reading someone else’s own words in an attempt to prevent that person’s Senate Co formation on the grounds of his attitudes towards civil rights.
He was painting the nominee as racist, and the guy didn’t get the nomination.
Kind of a dirty trick, because of context and back in those days Dems used that word a fair bit.
Assault with a deadly weapon, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
Id him, arrest him, easy conviction. Follow up with civil suit by the guy he hit.
Make him work for that guy for the rest of his life.
