Why were Europeans the most successful early in history? Again, due to the cold climate. To survive a winter meant you needed a certain mindset to prepare and an ability to build shelter and survive. Planning ahead is how humanity was able to find success, because in these tropical climates you did not need to. Fall asleep wherever during whatever day, you wont freeze to death. Food will always be available. Preparedness did not matter.

That's what people mean by "race". There are obvious patterns involved with one's history of heredity. Those patterns fall into the racial categories. And unsurprisingly, if you are multiracial you have a mix of those patterns of features.

It's changed over time, but there is no one universally agreed upon standard. Today we mainly use genomics, as it seems the most sensible, but only in the last 10-20 years or so. For a long long time, we used the eyeball observation, or the old "can they fuck and actually succeed" test.
