Yeah, I've heard about them as well. I haven't looked up the pricing of Patriot, but with Pure Talk you can get 1 GB of data, unlimited talk and text for $20 a month. They have higher GB plans as well for just a bit more, but even if you go over the data you pay for, they don't charge you extra. They just lower the speed of the data you use over what you are paying for.
Also, for each additional line they give you a discount.
I did hear that Patriot Mobile donates a portion of their profits to conservative organizations.

My wife is on mint and seems happy. As far as I can tell, they don't support visual voicemail on Android though. I just switched to Google Fi a couple months ago and it's been fine. Worse coverage than Verizon, but the pricing model is nice. I'm not paranoid about Google spying on me more or less than any other carrier though. I use signal for close personal correspondence. They can read all the spam email I get if they want whether or not I'm using their NVMO...
