What a lot of people don't think about is what it would feel like to be in this actual scenario. It's the middle of the night, its dark, you hear something. Your heart rate immediately doubles and your body is pumping flight/fight hormones into brain. You are scared, scared for your family and you don't know wtf is going on.
No matter what you choose you have to practice practice practice, even run this this scenario above. Have you walked your house in pitch black? Are you going to be fumbling around etc.
Your choice really depends on the type of person you are, and what the scenario is. The 12 or 20 Gauge is gonna scare the F out of anyone approaching the home and is the safest choice and is basically a loud deterrent. The rifle would be hard to use at night. The pistol is if the most dangerous but can be used if its a you or them situation.
AR Pistol in 300 blackout. Better range and knockdown than a pistol, more rounds than a shotgun or pistol, more maneuverable than a long gun. Use 300 subsonic no sense in going deaf protecting your property.
One of each of the above listed per family member. BARE MINIMUM.
Shotgun. You don't want a missed shot to kill a neighbor.
Ballistics vary. 22lr is not 50bmg
Q: Handgun, Shotgun, or Rifle?
My Answer: Yes
Consider a 12 guage with shorty defense ammo. Less kick like a 20 but more rounds in the tube.
I want a Mossberg 590 shockwave bad bad. If I found one it wouldn't be a hard decision.
