Background: Lewis Latimer, the black guy in question, invented an improvement on the bamboo filament used in early light bulbs, which made them last longer. Great work, of course, and hats off to Latimer! But not quite what Biden would have us believe.

The chronology is: Edison's patent was 1879, JP Morgan bankrolled the venture in 1880, and Latimer's improvement was 1882.

The real takeaway is that blacks were doing science and invention in the allegedly racist hellscape of 19th century America, and that someone like Edison was happy to employ them to do so. (He also offered GW Carver a million a year, but Carver said nope.)

It's almost like the races get along fine in a merit-based system, and only have problems when collectivist politicians try to profit from dividing them.

Interesting point, although I would not downplay the obstacles faced by black scientists and other professionals.
