I doubt an earthquake cracking the spillway would be catastrophic, although it would lead to more erosion in the flood season. The spillway isn't built into the actual dam, but off the hillside downstream from the dam. A real catastrophe would be a dam collapse.
I doubt an earthquake would do any significant damage to the spillways, it's the dam itself that would fail in an earthquake. People tend to think of the spillway because that's now the normal path for large amounts of water, and that's the part that broke in 2017.

Buy food now. Honey, rice, dry legumes, oats, spices, salt, sugar, all can last 35+ years if stored properly. Canned goods can last not quite as long but still long enough to weather a shortage.
I remember an article I read a few years ago, about a California supermarket going out of business in 1969, with all its stock going into a storage unit. There it was forgotten (presumably the storage unit was owned by the company or they prepaid waaaaay in advance). Anyway, sometime between 2005-2010 IIRC, the storage unit was opened, and all this old food was found. The canned goods were taken to a lab, opened and tested, AND-
all of it was still safe to eat. It had deteriorated somewhat in texture and appearance, and the foodstuffs had lost a little of the vitamins and minerals (less than 20% loss), but you could eat it and not die.
It should be noted these were old fashioned solid cans that require a can opener. I would NOT trust the contents of a new fangled can with the opener built into the lid, if it's past its expiration date. I do NOT believe those cans are 100% airtight.
But the cans that need an opener-? Ignore the date, it'll be fine.
ETA : I tried to find a link to that old story, that I remember reading on a website I haven't visited since 2010. No luck, but I did find this article, which describes decade's old canned goods still being safe to eat.

Some farmers might refuse to sell to China, out of patriotism. But, few of them sell directly to a consumer, and once they've delivered to a distributor, they've lost control of the ultimate destination.

Buy food now. Honey, rice, dry legumes, oats, spices, salt, sugar, all can last 35+ years if stored properly. Canned goods can last not quite as long but still long enough to weather a shortage.

I remember an article I read a few years ago, about a California supermarket going out of business in 1969, with all its stock going into a storage unit. There it was forgotten (presumably the storage unit was owned by the company or they prepaid waaaaay in advance). Anyway, sometime between 2005-2010 IIRC, the storage unit was opened, and all this old food was found. The canned goods were taken to a lab, opened and tested, AND-
all of it was still safe to eat. It had deteriorated somewhat in texture and appearance, and the foodstuffs had lost a little of the vitamins and minerals (less than 20% loss), but you could eat it and not die.
It should be noted these were old fashioned solid cans that require a can opener. I would NOT trust the contents of a new fangled can with the opener built into the lid, if it's past its expiration date. I do NOT believe those cans are 100% airtight.
But the cans that need an opener-? Ignore the date, it'll be fine.
