The only thing a Sheriff Office is actually responsible for is upkeep and operations of county jails. Sheriff Offices are under absolutely no obligation to patrol the streets, or assist in calls. Now, when they're the only real law enforcement presence in a city or small town, then yeah they're obviously going to patrol.

The Sheriffs Office is under no obligation to actually do ANY policing other than maintaining county jails. That is the absolute bare minimum requirement. How the fuck people don't know this, is utterly baffling.
