Barnes (the Covington kids' lawyer) is familiar with Lin Wood and the other lawyer who have taken up Kyle's defense. Pointing out that they have financial and experience issues. Wisconsin top lawyer for defense cases has refused to team up based on the others involved.
Defamation cases and criminal defense cases are different worlds. Totally different. Pierce and Wood have exactly zero qualifications to handle Kyle's criminal defense and they know it. They're just trying to promote themselves with a connection to him, and hoping to represent him in a defamation case in the future.
Don't worry about it. These two loudmouths won't get anywhere near Kyle's criminal defense case. But I wish people would stop shovelling money into their sketchy "foundation".
We don't - certain items can be independently verified, like the Wisconsin attorney's refusal to work as a team, the cases brought by the attorney's partners, etc. Not asking for any of us here to make any decisions or investigation, just if anyone can come up with a way to get the information to someone who can review and advise family to be sure 17 year old kid. doesn't end up with a weaker defense than he deserves.
I am not a lawyer. I am asking if anyone here knows of a way to get this to either Rittenhouse family or advisors other than their lawyers. Generally we have members across all 50 states.
Viva Frei makes no such allegations, Barnes begins 2 minutes into the stream and makes the claims himself.
Again, we have members all across the country. Should any of them know the Rittenhouse family or people close to them who might be in an advisory position, please review Barnes statements and decide if you wish to verify or convey them. It contains some objective claims (past lawsuits, representation refusal to work with current team, and debt issues) that could be independently reviewed. Everyone who is NOT in that position of the second sentence above, I am requesting nothing. Vote if you wish for visibility, but I would suspect any members who are described above would search by Rittenhouse's name so I summarized my requests in my first response without expecting anyone else to vote.
They are trying to give the impression that they are representing Kyle in his criminal case (the only case he has right now). They are absolutely not. That's why the public defender who is currently representing Kyle told the court yesterday (the court that employs her and appointed her to this case) that Kyle needed to postpone the extradition hearing for 30 days to give him time to hire a private attorney. Does that sound to you like he has already engaged John Pierce, who claims he has "assembled a team of top lawyers" including Lin Wood to handle "the case"?
Look at Pierce's website. No other attorneys listed, but endless rambling about how they've got the best attorneys from the top law schools who trained at the biggest firms. There used to be at least a few other attorneys there:
Law firm representing Rudy Giuliani beset by sordid allegations, partner exodus The firm, Pierce Bainbridge Beck Price & Hecht, has faced an exodus of lawyers as the litigation stretches on, including two who were defending Giuliani amid a criminal probe launched by New York federal prosecutors. Those partners, Eric Creizman and Melissa Madrigal, spent their last day at Pierce Bainbridge on Friday and are set to join the New York office of a different firm, Armstrong Teasdale, later this month, the lawyers confirmed to NBC News. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna1127906
Pierce is absolutely 100% unqualified to handle any violent crime defense. Look at the "Practice Areas" page on the site https://piercebainbridge.com/practice-areas/ It claims the firm has expertise in a long laundry list of practice areas, but only one that has anything to do with criminal defense, and the description of that practice area (all the way at the bottom of the page) explicitly excludes the kind of charges Kyle is facing.
WHITE COLLAR CRIMINAL DEFENSE
Non-violent Criminal Activity in the Commercial or Business Realm
But he claims he has "gathered" or "assembled" some great team of "top lawyers" who are qualified. Why the hell would any highly qualified violent criminal defense and constitutional attorneys want to be "gathered" and "led" by this sketchy attorney who has absolutely no qualifications in this area?
The reason Wood and Pierce set up the fund (which they had already announced at the same time they were begging on Twitter for somebody to DM them contact information for the Rittenhouse family) is to publicize themselves, and to try to amass a big pile of other people's money that they can use to try to guilt trip the family into giving them a piece of some other pie, e.g. defamation cases that may arise. If they don't get it, well, not to worry, a close look at the fundraising website shows no mention of Kyle and lots of rambling about all the unrelated things the "foundation" can spend donations on. Some people who have donated have gotten receipts saying the donations was "for Kyle Rittenhouse", but it doesn't specify criminal defense. If these attorneys end up representing Kyle for a defamation case, they'll be very well-compensated with a percentage of any settlement or judgement they win. And normally they'd have to pay expenses out of their percentage, but with this big fund "for Kyle", they can have other people pay all the expenses, because the expenses were for the defamation case "for Kyle".
These attorneys may not be outright fraudsters like Avenatti, but they are sleazy as hell.
Not asking anyone without interest to watch it. Just trying to find a way to get it to anyone who might get it to Rittenhouse family or others who are in a position to review Barnes' allegations and advise the family.
Kyle doesn't have a defense attorney for his criminal case yet. Right now he just has an Illinois public defender. The actual criminal case will be in a Wisconsin court.
You really don't need to worry about alerting the family to Pierce and Wood's lack of qualifications. They'll be hearing about it from many credible sources. Pierce and Wood have exactly zero chance of being retained to work on Kyle's criminal defense in any capacity. Just because they're making a lot of wild claims doesn't mean you should believe them, or worry that Kyle's family believes them.

Reposting my comment from a thread last week:

Is there anyone who can get this critique to the family or others who may be able to independently review to make sure Kyle's defense is solid?
Barnes is on the livestream
