Or... imagine a California run by smart, ethical, ambitious conservatives... it would be the crown jewel of the planet.

It was amazing in the late 80's and early 90's.

What happens when you try to import your voting base to maintain political power.

20
Side-o-Beef_Curtains 20 points ago +21 / -1

It's a third world country now

Not LA

1
ktbffhctid 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yup. I remember moving there when Deukmejian was governor. Then Wilson.

Place went so downhill so quickly. Left in 2008. Never going back.

1
Side-o-Beef_Curtains 1 point ago +1 / -0

I moved away for two years for work, and moved back. The change was insane.

logan34 24 points ago +24 / -0

Why do you think it became the powerhouse it was? The state was once all Republican run and lead the country in innovation and had almost decades of prosperity until Democrats ruined it.

19
Dirk_Diggler 19 points ago +19 / -0

This. This is the right lens to see this through.

8
NativeNorCal 8 points ago +8 / -0

It once was, I remember Deukmejian and Pete Wilson. California was a lot better to live in back then. Even San Francisco was pretty nice in the 80s.

Cali's government now is lazy, corrupt, and inept. They use social causes like climate change and diversity to distract from their inability to serve the taxpaying citizens and deliver basic reliable services like police, power, water, and decent roads. It's the normal degradation of government typical of left wing rulers.

Sixth largest. It fucked up so badly that it lost a position in the global ranking.

I thought it went to 7th

2

Oh snap! Even worse! I can't even be smug about this because this affects our nation!

It’s how you get places like Venezuela.

5
tdwinner2020 5 points ago +5 / -0

Is, or was?

31
Food4thought 31 points ago +31 / -0

It's important to conserve power, and water, and not use fossil fuels, or have children, or own a large home, or get ahead..... because California is all about serfdom.

15
lacker101 15 points ago +15 / -0

Been saying that for years. They want you to be barely afford housing, medical, and retirement. Otherwise you might actually have the funding to leave the fiefdom Plantation Metro.

8
Food4thought 8 points ago +8 / -0

The states modus operandi seems to be make everything more expensive so they can extract more out of everyone in taxes.

7
NativeNorCal 7 points ago +7 / -0

It's their screwed up substitute for religion. It doesn't work (false god) and they're angry but can't admit their failure which is why TDS is so prevalent here.

Ayn Rand said you can deny reality but you can't deny the consequences of denying reality. Kuk as Chaos is similar kinda like Karma. I'm enjoying the show here in Cali and I have faith in Kek (Kuk).

4
Food4thought 4 points ago +4 / -0

Well, to be honest, I doubt many of them thought much about it. The whole scheme seems to revolve around building an emotional and easily manipulated society over reason and empirical truth.

They banned plastic straws in paper wrappers only to replace them with paper straws in plastic wrappers FFS.

and then cancel the stupid mayor of LA went and canceled the natural gas generation plants.

11
lacker101 11 points ago +11 / -0

Not even the Germans were that dumb when they shut down those "dangerous" nuclear plants in favor of their Russian fueled Ngas plants. Everyone thought that Wind/Solar would replace their baseload. Right as EU's CO2 output exploded 2016-2019. For caring so much about emission they don't seem practice it so much.

2
knightofday 2 points ago +2 / -0

Sigh, it’s not about being dumb...it’s by design

Federal bail out request coming soon. They didn't sign coal contracts and now look at them.

21
Food4thought 21 points ago +21 / -0

But... but.... my roof has 3kw of solar panels!

17
Kornstalx 17 points ago +17 / -0

Did you pay your tax to install them and then pay the Power Company surcharge every month to keep them?

14
Food4thought 14 points ago +14 / -0

No, I stole them from the neighbors house and then told her I was oppressed by her ancestors.... and then she apologized, started sobbing and handed me the keys to her car.

11
FuckRedditWithADildo 11 points ago +11 / -0

Can't tell if that's a joke or actual taxes in California...

That's how fucked up they've become

7
Kornstalx 7 points ago +8 / -1

https://news.energysage.com/net-metering-2-0-in-california-everything-you-need-to-know/#:~:text=Under%20NEM%202.0%2C%20residential%20and,PG%26E%20customers%20will%20pay%20%24145.

You pay a fee to the power company when you install it. You pay a new minimum surcharge (NBCs) that others do not.

2
Lord_Yeezus 2 points ago +3 / -1

So the surcharge makes sense from a load planning perspective. Solar panels are great when the sun is out and they’re producing. But when it’s not, you still need energy from the grid, which means the utility still needs to maintain and enhance the system that feeds you, which costs money, even if you’re not using it all the time. Power grids are extremely expensive to build and maintain. Obviously in California they have many more problems than just that, but I get the need to pay a surcharge to maintain the feed to your house.

Well considering they blame immigration, terrorism and depression on AGW and everything including AWG on Trump that would be not surprising.

12
AK1911 12 points ago +12 / -0

If you think, for one second, that anyone is going to take responsibility for the failed policies that led to this; you’re wrong! Watch as they blame the grid operators, ‘big corporations’, global warming or some other bullshit. Democrats and their followers will not admit a mistake or learn from it.

The bus runs everyday my friend.

We’re in Fresno for a few days, checking out the national parks and such.

Parks are beautiful, lots of Nunes signs. This based guy (maybe Nigerian) flags me down at a gas station. Thought he was going to ask for money, I roll the window down. Nope, he wants to chat about Democrats, why people in this country would beat up MAGA hat wearers, and other things. Was there for probably fifteen minutes, then gave his number.

I really like this highway system. It’s not perfect, but freeways to get wherever you go is pretty nice.

I go into buy beer at Walmart with other supplies and “you can’t buy beer at the self check out.” Why not? You have to check my ID anyway and authorize it (just like home).

Very interesting place. I’d NEVER live here though. I miss America already.

Yeah...it’s a swell level of hell. Watching the #CreekFire destroy entire towns and everybody on pre-evac orders has been extra enjoyable the last 48 hours. 76k acres of burning inferno, ash falling like rain, and air so black with smoke you can’t breathe outside, with 0% containment. Reason given by CalFIRE - “an over abundance of critically dry fuel feeding the fires”. No forestry management. No culling of dead and dying trees. No clearing of underbrush. No firebreaks built. All logging outlawed and shut down due to habitat threat to an owl. Gavin Newsom is a murderer.

The only thing that has kept its population level has been illegal immigration - probably a few million people who saw the writing on the wall have left CA in the past 20 years.

Build a border around that shithole, only citizens that truly support America should be allowed to move out of Commiefornia.

2
d1gw33d 2 points ago +2 / -0

Leave. It is hard, especially with a family but its possible. The state is lost. And I tried. We participated in city / county hearings and meetings, we showed up countless times to State hearings (lived near Sacramento.) These people can give two fucks about you. The amount of blatant disdain and hatred CA politicians show for their constituents would be unbelievable if it wasn't expected given their legislation.

I left in 2019. Born and raised, 38 years. Wife + 3 kids. Followed by my Dad, his wife and 4 kids. Two months later, my Brother, his wife and their 2 kids.

In 3 months California lost 15 people, 3 households that are tax paying, home owning, small business having tax machines. Fuck em'.

Moved to Florida after visiting once, zero ties here or family in the East. My proximity to world class beaches is unattainable for any Californian making under $1M a year. I live in a modest home that I paid $300K for that is 10 minutes to those beaches. In California this house would go for $1-2M with this proximity to the ocean. Cost of living, lower. Quality of schools? Higher. Trump flags? EVERYWHERE. In CA no one I knew had the balls to put a Trump flag or sticker anywhere, unless you wanted your shit vandalized.

Fuck California.

2
FUCK_DemonRATS 2 points ago +3 / -1

Commiefornia has become a communist shit hole. Trump should have built that wall around Commiefornia instead. The U.S. could have split and the liberals could have taken Commiefornia.

2
Dialectic 2 points ago +2 / -0

Beautiful weather and beaches are indeed enticing, but I'll stick to colder and freer states. Far less likely to be turned into Democrat shitholes when the locus swarm of fleeing democrats looks for a place to settle.

2
xxxMAGA420xxx 2 points ago +2 / -0

A bus ticket out of California might cost $200.

It's better to lose every thing and start over than continue to live in a place like that.

2
leroynumber3 2 points ago +2 / -0

Gotta make sure the government gyms can stay open with all that extra power.

2
beaglescoutman 2 points ago +2 / -0

Maybe they could power the state with all of the political capital Newsom keeps burning through. This stuff will continue until the state flips, but he is accelerating the process.
