Ya, why is no one asking why the rest of the world hasn't had the people just dropping dead in the streets like they publicized so much in the beginning??
Had the same thought recently.
They played us. They know we care about our children's lives so we took the bait.
And now the children wear masks, sit in plexiglass cubicles, and do recess in squares drawn 6 feet apart and can't interact with each other.
Turns out the Chinese communist party has to approve all outgoing video footage. It was most likely fake or staged as propaganda via social media. Chinese communists love their propaganda, it's the form of warfare they are most competent in.

Nah there's nothing intrinsic to the creation of a bio-weapon would cause that.
The reason this is expected to happen is because extreme infectiousness is the number one characteristic of any engineered bioweapon. Extreme infectiousness creates trillions of viruses in millions of hosts. All of these viruses have an ability to mutate. Some of them might mutate into a more lethal strain, some of them a less lethal, some of them more infectious, some less infectious, but the ones that will win this arms race will be the most infectious, and the least lethal because they will spread the farthest, while leaving antibodies behind to impede the performance of the other strains.
Once it settles down we'll be left with a virus that only propagates when it's mutated enough that our antibodies don't immediately recognise it and destroy it - I.E. a seasonal flu.

Clearly the video of them dropping in the streets was faked, as well as the welding of the doors. Not that those people aren't all dead, but China wanted the video to spread.

It's very likely that the virus WAS very deadly early on, but such viruses quickly mutate and usually become less deadly rather quickly.

Well the whole thing was a bioweapon-propaganda war against the US, so...
China got spooked, then returned to normal. Children in China are back in schools, no masks required. Business back open. Only masks required for public transit. Seems like the rest of the world is seriously over reacting or in America's case using this for political and financial gain.

Their economy was already in the tank. It totally makes sense to tank an already tanked economy if it also means tanking every other non-tanked economy in the world. This strategy is also completely consistent with communist philosophy, that seeks justice by bringing everyone down to the bottom together.
