The top military brass eventually end up on the boards of directors of these companies that are part of the military industrial complex where they receive lucrative paychecks. What are Colin Powell, David Petraeus, Jim Mattis, and John Kelly doing now? Remember how Jim Comey was paid 6 million or so for his stint at Lockheed Martin?

There is a lot of mis-understanding about "military industrial complex". Given that USA doesn't have "nationalized" industry, private industry needs to be fed or production lines close down while experienced workforce either fired or moved to a different product. It's a delicate balance between starving industry and over-producing. If not enough orders come in from the military, industry has no interest of keeping making "product x" while at the same time military doesn't need 1,000,000 tanks. If a conflict kicks off - how long will it take to restart a production line (for example F-22) that has been shutdown over a slow-line but with workforce that can ramp-up on demand. And yes, there is very big problem when a general that decides to buy 1,000 tanks retires and starts lobbying for more of those tanks.
