Every four years I hear stories about overseas military votes not being counted. It never gets easier to hear. They give so much, and the bureaucracy takes away their vote too.
I remember a bunch of overseas military votes being rejected in Florida during the 2000 election because they arrived with no postmark. Since military ballots require no postage there is no need for a postmark to cancel the stamp.
What should be done is damage control. One thing for certain is that he can count on our enthusiasm compared to the other side. We will crawl over shattered glass to vote for him IN PERSON, while they will commit mass fraud on industrial scale, so mailed in ballots should be invalidated as much as possible. One way to do that is to make sure that the deadline is the deadline. Whatever the result is, no extra vote will be counted beyond the election day. Don't give them a chance to conjure up boxes of dem votes out of nowhere.
SCs in each state can override those deadlines and often do.

I don't trust the post office with my ballot even if this wasn't an important election or they didn't demonstrate obvious bias. I'd never put my faith in a government worker to get anything done in a timely and prompt manner.

We have early vote in person here, in case you can’t go Election Day. Don’t need a ballot you’ve been mailed, you just go like you do your precinct on Election Day.

It was to trigger a conversation about the differences between by mail where ballots are mailed to voters on voter rolls, vs. absentee you have to apply for and match voter rolls in advance, and provisionals, which you can legally do if you don’t think your vote by mail got counted. It gets checked and thrown out if it is a duplicate. He’ll clarify that someday I hope.

If you submit an absentee ballot, and it has been received before election day it will be tabulated, and when you go to the polls you will not be able to vote as it will show you already have.
If you submit an absentee ballot and it has not been received before election day you will be able to vote, and then should your absentee ballot arrive after, it will not be counted as you have already voted. (some system with the ballot envelopes having a barcode that will match you on the electoral roll I think)
Now the key here is that is how the system SHOULD work, but is probably far from the case.

That could change in this election. So they know you voted but not who you voter for until election day. Your ballot goes into an inner envelope with your name on the outside and this envelope is mailed in a second outer envelope. Only the outer one is opened before the election.

Depends on your state. Mine has adopted machines with a paper backup and has cleaned the voting rolls. Depends on how long you think you can stand in line. Having volunteered to work the polls, I intend to do early voting. I told them I must be able to vote in person if they want me to work the polls.

What are your early voting procedures? In my state, early voting is the exact same procedure as in-person election day voting. In my county, voting is optical-scan paper ballots.

I'm in a blue state, NM, and while our state constitution forbids mail in ballots, that hasnt stopped them from trying. Rather than risk some sort of fraud before Nov I'll be in person early voting the day it opens Oct 17th. My parents and brothers will be waiting for Nov to cast in person.

Depends on your state. Mine has adopted machines with a paper backup and has cleaned the voting rolls. Depends on how long you think you can stand in line. Having volunteered to work the polls, I intend to do early voting. I told them I must be able to vote in person if they want me to work the polls.

I only ever vote the day of. Only missed one election cycle, 2012, cause I was in a foreign country and Romney/Ryan sucked. They're gonna cheat so make the bastards earn it.
What are your early voting procedures? In my state, early voting is the exact same procedure as in-person election day voting. In my county, voting is optical-scan paper ballots.
And, the early voting results aren't published, other than the number of early voters.

That's assuming your local election office is open, and has something in place to accept ballots. I've heard people saying fedex it, but my local election office only has a P.O. box, and we're told to use 'secure" election boxes, "guarded" by two "deputized" office workers.

Absentee is reliable. Well, far as I know, anyway. But this cockeyed mail-in system where they just throw ballots everywhere and see what sticks? That's the problem. They're giving away free material for making huge numbers of fake ballots. They're GIVING the crooks the raw material to work their scam! Like giving free phenylacetone to a meth dealer. With absentee balloting (again--as far as I know) you only get a ballot sent to you if you ASK for one.
Another huge problem with mail-in (and almost nobody reports on this!) is that minorities (especially latinos) are the groups most likely to get their ballots disqualified. Usually because they filled it out incorrectly, which, usually, is due to poor understanding of English.
I'll definitely vote in person. And if a mail in ballot shows up, my neighbor stole it and mailed it in for all I know. Prove otherwise.

I'm in a blue state, NM, and while our state constitution forbids mail in ballots, that hasnt stopped them from trying. Rather than risk some sort of fraud before Nov I'll be in person early voting the day it opens Oct 17th. My parents and brothers will be waiting for Nov to cast in person. Guess we will see if my fears play out.
