If you want America to stay America, then there need to be some standards. In the same way many immigrants understand the need for a border wall and immigration enforcement. Certain standards actually make for a much better experience for all, including immigrants.

I think I look at the issue more strategically - many countries limit the amount of foreign / immigrant ownership in businesses, land, public office, etc. - for, amongst other things, security reasons. The West at large has a structural weakness in that a resourceful and directed opponent can infiltrate key resources by acquiring almost anything either as a foreign entity, or through newly landed immigrants.
There is also threshold where, not by a single entity's malice, but by thenatural process that globalization has on a very open nation, once enough of the country is foreign-owned, it actually loses a lot of its sovereignty, as many of its institutiions now have foreign or, at the very least, dual / split allegiances. For the same reason I think immigration should be controlled to allow assimilation, I also think ownership of property, business, public office etc., that hold a high risk of foreign allegiance, should also be controlled at an acceptably low rate.
In reality I think breakdown occurs through some combination of the above 2 methods
