I live in Cupertino where Apple is headquartered. No blackouts. PG&E sent us notices but also exempted our neighborhoods. San Jose however, which borders our town, some of the poorer neighborhoods got 3-day blackouts.
I think we live fairly close by each other, but what you said is true. Cupertino is part of Santa Clara county, the richest county in the country I believe and Cupertino, especially if you live in an area by Apple, does not get black outs. Although I do believe Apple always switched to auxiliary power when blackouts are possible, as a precautionary measure.
If you live further out of Santa Clara, especially if you live in “affordable” alameda or farther, you’re fucked and I hope you can get by without power for multiple days. Just so happens few politicians or wealthy people live out there.
