The Soviet Union was a communist state, not a socialist state. Under communism, there is no property ownership or private enterprise. Everybody toils for the state and the state apportions to everybody the same amount of food and provisions regardless of their abilities. There is no rich or poor people.

Under socialism, property ownership and private enterprise are allowed, but the state taxes a huge chunk of workers’ incomes and redistribute the taxes to support non-working people. The state gives cradle to grave care and “free” public education to everybody, but the oppressive tax deters business startup and innovation. The gap between rich and poor people is smaller. Socialism is the lesser evil twin of communism.

Are you a Bernie bro? What you're reciting is the libtard bullshit that tries to convince people that Scandinavian countries are "socialist" only because they have a safety net.

Under socialism, property ownership and private enterprise are allowed

Absolutely fucking not.

The Soviet Union was a communist state, not a socialist state.

They had the word "socialist" in the name of their union. Ever wondered what USSR stands for?

No I am not a bernie but a MAGA guy all the way. I voted for Trump in 2016 and will in November. I am accurate about communism. Go do your own research. Communism and socialism are not synonymous. There are some differences. One is fully controlled by the state. Everybody works for the state like in the Soviet Union. The other is mostly state controlled but not all. Socialist states takes money from you and give to others whereas communist states provides to everybody the same.

Socialist states takes money from you and give to others

Therefore America is a socialist country now, according to your definitions.

No, unless the democrats get to control the government. Remember taxation is a necessary evil. A capitalist country does require some degree of taxation to support the functions of a state such as defense but the taxation is just enough to support necessary functions.

If the government doubles your taxes to support those who don’t have skin in the system like welfare recipients and the illegals, then it would reek of socialism. Why do you think they call welfare a social program? Those who advocate for a welfare state are socialists.

America has not gotten to the point that it could be called a welfare state, but it will if the democrats control the government.

wouldn't taxes funding the police/military be socialism? It's necessary to a certain degree. I don't want my tax dollars funding safe injection rooms for drug addicts and shit though..

I don't know a whole lot about this stuff though and welcome correction.

That’s so cute... you’re one of those idiots who thinks the name of something determines what it is. You must be a real sucker for democrat named programs.

China is a communist state but it does not have the word “socialist” in its name, don’t forget. The Soviet Union was a communist country, not a socialist state.

What the dems are trying to do is socialism. They want to tax you and me to give to those who don’t work or the illegals. If they propose to take away your properties, then that would be communism. I am not defending the left because I don’t like their socialism BS, but I am trying to be accurate. That’s all.

Your socialism definition sounds like fascism, where you keep the cows and give the milk (taxes) to the government.

I am not so sure. Nazi Germany and Italy during WWII were fascist states. A fascist state demands total control of the people’s lives, but it probably allows private ownership like under Nazi Germany.

If you have two cows, a communist state will take both your cows and equally divide the cows among the people.

A socialist state will take one of your cows and give it to those who don’t have cows.

A fascist state tells you how to raise your cows and take the milk to support the state.
