Socialist states takes money from you and give to others

Therefore America is a socialist country now, according to your definitions.

No, unless the democrats get to control the government. Remember taxation is a necessary evil. A capitalist country does require some degree of taxation to support the functions of a state such as defense but the taxation is just enough to support necessary functions.

If the government doubles your taxes to support those who don’t have skin in the system like welfare recipients and the illegals, then it would reek of socialism. Why do you think they call welfare a social program? Those who advocate for a welfare state are socialists.

America has not gotten to the point that it could be called a welfare state, but it will if the democrats control the government.

America spends a shitton of money on welfare recipients. Also gives lots of services to illegal aliens. America also spends a shitton of money on public health, much more than European countries per capita.

So according to your definition America is a socialist country.

But your definition is wrong. Socialism is the government controlling the economy.

I beg to differ in opinion. Communism is a total state-run economy like the former Soviet Union. Socialism is about the government doling out social programs to the mass.

Undoubtedly, the welfare system in the US is socialism, but it didn’t use to be this way. It was implemented during the great depression as part of the New Deal by FDR to provide temporary relief for job losses. Nowadays, welfare becomes a permanent fixture for many.

wouldn't taxes funding the police/military be socialism? It's necessary to a certain degree. I don't want my tax dollars funding safe injection rooms for drug addicts and shit though..

I don't know a whole lot about this stuff though and welcome correction.

Socialism and capitalism are two methods of managing the economy.

Socialism is the government managing the economy, which means the government decides what to produce, what job people do, and what people consume.

Capitalism means free market. The presence of taxes and public services does not change the nature of the economic system. For example Scandinavian countries have very strong safety net and high taxation, but they are capitalist countries because they have economic freedom.
