Actually not really. There is a difference between TED and TEDx. TED is the actual science and technology talks and they directly most those events. TEDx is TED Extended, and those events can be hosted by anyone that pays a licensing fee to TED.

While is doesn't mean that TED and TEDx are going to be ideological different; it does explain why I can watch an TED Talk about bio printing a organ from steam cells and why TEDx will have a talk on the benefits of screaming at trees.
