They aren't actually representing him for the criminal case, just running around making wild claims about "leading a team" of attorneys who will defend Kyle. Neither of them has any criminal defense experience whatsoever, and no attorney who is remotely qualified to represent Kyle for criminal defense has any interest in being "led" by these clowns. They both have legal problems of their own, re alleged financial improprieties.
Kyle's Illinois public defender got him a 30 day delay on his extradition hearing specifically because he needed time to hire a private attorney. Pierce was already running around claiming to be "representing Kyle". Even tweeting the day before that he would be "appearing in court tomorrow with Kyle", though there was no in-court hearing, just a videoconference with the public defender -- Kyle was not a participant (and needless to say, neither was Pierce).
It seems to me that these lawyers are more about keeping Kyle's name from being defamed, like the media did to Sandman. The private lawyer would be his defense attorney for the criminal part.
Then why are these attorneys running around claiming they're "leading a team" of attorneys who will defend Kyle? They're shameless self-promoters. They can't do jackshit to prevent Kyle's name from being defamed, and if his family allows them to bring any suits for defamation, they'll take a huge cut of any judgements or settlements paid.
Both of these attorneys have legal problems of their own, including lawsuits re financial misdeeds from other attorneys' they've worked with. Some, and maybe all, of Pierce's former partners in his firm jumped ship earlier this year. No other attorneys are named on his firm's website.
Law firm representing Rudy Giuliani beset by sordid allegations, partner exodus The firm, Pierce Bainbridge Beck Price & Hecht, has faced an exodus of lawyers as the litigation stretches on, including two who were defending Giuliani amid a criminal probe launched by New York federal prosecutors. Those partners, Eric Creizman and Melissa Madrigal, spent their last day at Pierce Bainbridge on Friday and are set to join the New York office of a different firm, Armstrong Teasdale, later this month, the lawyers confirmed to NBC News. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna1127906
They're not really his lawyers as far as the criminal case is concerned (and not for any current case, though it's possible they scammed his parents into signing some kind of vague engagement letter). Just noisy self-promoters. Kyle's Illinois public defender got him a 30 day delay on his extradition hearing specifically because he needed time to hire a private attorney. Pierce was already running around claiming to be "representing Kyle". Ignore them.
Look closely at the fundraising site these lawyers are running. It doesn't say anything about Kyle, and makes clear that donations can be used for a lot of other things. Some people who have donated got an emailed receipt that included a notation "for Kyle Rittenhouse", but nothing specific to his criminal defense expenses. So these lawyers get to decide what qualifies as "for Kyle".
They've publicized it so heavily that they'll have to get some of the money to something that Kyle's family will regard as being "for Kyle", but a lot probably will go to the other vague things described on the website. Nobody will know how much they end up taking in, or how many donors got the "for Kyle" notation on receipts, or how much ends up going to pay for things that could legitimately be considered "for Kyle". Legal expenses? Does that include travel expenses for Pierce to fly to Illinois and get his picture taken hugging Kyle's mother?
I don't think there's really any way to do that. There's no timetable for when donated funds are to be spent or transferred to another account or organization, and no way to find out how much money they're actually taking in. This is why it's never a good idea to donate to "fundraisers" unless you are personally acquainted with the people running it or the stated beneficiaries. Most fundraising operations benefit primarily the people running the operation and their associates, and most are also doing this 100% within the letter of the law.
This kid is getting fucked and his "lawyers" are a fucking joke.
What do you mean... how have they fucked up (honest question)

Thanks! Let’s hope Wisconsin isn’t as cucked as Oregon

Doesn’t sound good. Hopefully the parents will use the donated money wisely!
