Yeah, had to convince friends to have the taxes held out of their unemployment even though they didn't want to. Had to explain how it worked. Since the $600 ran out, they are feeling the squeeze. They were hoping that $400 would kick in, but as it turns out, it is actually only $300. That is putting most of them on a very tight budget each month. These guys used to work in the oilfield and were making killer money...
this is what we try to tell everyone. friends earn $1k and they spend $2k. they think we are crazy because we have a cushion for ourselves in case things go to hell. and we think they are crazy because they do not.
What part of Florida? It's always been difficult finding and maintaining work in the state because of in-country immigration of labor.
I hear you can weather things better further north, and many of my peers found their first jobs in Atlanta or the Carolinas despite being Florida natives.
Orlando area. while the national economy has come back quite well unfortunately Tourism, Hospitality and the Restaurant industries are all screwed and are not coming back soon

I've spent my entire adult life trying to get to Florida, and my wife had to leave to get a job. There aren't a lot of jobs there! How's your knowledge of aerospace engieneering? :)
Not well, I'm in the DC area and all the NASA folks I know are here. I don't know the folks at Space Coast very well but from what I hear all the hiring is still run through DC.
Not sure where Bezos' outfit does their hiring but I don't think it's through Florida.

We need to open up our hotels, travel and leisure industries here. I have many friends in that industry and they are all getting pink slips. This is for no good reason other than one fucking gigantic national virtue signal over a cold bug.
