Reminds me of a kid in Minneapolis a few years back. A group of black guys were partying on a sidewalk and a white kid didn't want to walk across the street to avoid them because he was taught that it would be racist. He walked through the crowd and was beaten to death with a soup can inside a sock.

The missing factor is "How much time do you spend with white people vs black people." If white people spend most of their time around white people, they're more likely to be murdered by a white person, even if black people are a bigger murder risk (they just have fewer opportunities).
Similarly, black people spend most of their time with other black people.
