If Trump wins the Popular vote.. those left wing states will never do that deal.. and the dem will never let them... that whole deal is a farce.. because they will only do if a dem wins

I don’t understand the post. This initiative only kicks in if states representing 270 electoral votes approve the measure. It isn’t in effect now and not enough states have approved it.

This measure is poison as it attempts to undo the electoral college without a constitutional amendment.

I don't believe this is true. Each state has the responsibility of handling their own election and how their Electors will be selected. It is not up to Maine to determine how the Electors from Florida will be selected since each state is sovereign.

Maybe I'm wrong here? I do believe this is uncharted territory, so it might be hard to point to anything of the past. I'll try digging a little more. If you have something handy on this, I'd love to read about it.

Edit: I was reading more on the link above, and the way it is worded is that this only happens if there are enough states to hop on board to represent 270 electoral votes. But really, what it is saying is that in order for the National Popular Vote to fully determine a Presidential election, then they need enough states for it to add up to 270 electors.

Currently, the 196 electors currently go to the popular vote. There still needs to be 74 more electors until the popular vote would completely overtake the electoral college vote.... but it's still happening.

No, you’re wrong. California will not apportion based on the popular vote until enough states sign on to make the election go to the popular winner. It’s confusing but that’s how it works.

Ok, thanks man. Glad to hear it is not the way I thought I was reading it. I can't say I found a great article or information on this yet, but yeah, seems like you're right.

Means i have more reading to do.... Thanks.

It’s a fairly devilish ploy to impose popular vote on the country without a constitutional amendment. If enough states sign on, the other states are rendered irrelevant. It seems crazy because states are potentially awarding their electors to a candidate that lost their state, so disregarding the will of their own residents.

One can only hope that states will drop out of the pact if Republican majorities are elected in the legislatures so the measure has difficulty proceeding. You’d like at least to see CO drop out, since it is purplish. The other states are pretty solid Blue so who cares. Also would like to see VA stay out.

Yeah, this is bullshit. Like... proportional apportionment with the winner for each state getting both the votes that "represent" the senators is one thing. This is bullshit. I get being irritated about winner-take-all. But this is bullshit.

HRC won the "popular" due to voter fraud in California she got over 3 million fake votes there. It'll be the same for Biden in 2020.
