I remember working for an organization in Seattle and was sitting in a meeting about choosing an award for a small business in the city. The executive director straight up said, “let’s give it to xyz because she’s African American.” They mentioned no other qualifications except her skin color. I knew the woman, and if she had known this, she would have been incredibly insulted.
At the awards event, she was presented with it in front of an audience of about 95% white Seattleites, all patting themselves on the back. It was a disgusting display.
As I’ve mentioned in other posts, these Seattleites spoke openly around because they also assumed I was a liberal and I never revealed my cover, so I could keep taking notes.
On Reddit you occasionally see wedding photos get upvoted to the top of r/pics ("Happiest day of my life!") and it's always an interracial or gay couple. How fucking disgusting. I'm white and my girlfriend is black but if I ever got accolades for being with her because of her skin color it would make me wanna puke.
