During the last Ice age when the distance between the Straight of Gibraltar was much lower, early European farmers and herders crossed into North Africa and populated the northern coast of Africa. They eventually ended up in the Nile valley and created one of the greatest civilizations. The white Berbers of Morocco are a remnant population.
