The cancer is metastasizing. This is grave news and we should be very concerned about it.

Things like this are hard to stop once they gain a critical mass of adherents.

45
ObjectiveReality 45 points ago +45 / -0

They are preparing the opposition we have to fight 8 years from now.

The shit we are up against now is just the beginning, not the apex.

Clown world is tame compared to where we'll be when the next generation comes to term.

We need school choice 8 years ago, but the second best time is now.

1
TP4bunghole 1 point ago +1 / -0

I get the idea in general - but I don't see how that would succeed in the long run.

Everybody knows which schools are the shitholes and which are good. If everybody gets to choose their school, or vouchers, etc., then everybody will just choose to attend the good schools, until they're turned into shitholes, too.

3
zuccherina 3 points ago +3 / -0

I don't think it's that simple though. Admittedly I don't know much about it. But the DeVos family pretty much built up Western Michigan themselves and school choice has been Betsy's baby for more than a decade. They're smart people with good business sense, and I trust her to implement it.

missusellis 20 points ago +20 / -0

Most public schools doing common core was to meet state guidelines. Since common core is not fed mandated anymore, lots of states removed it from guidelines so schools also took it off their curriculum. Hopefully your school is one of these.

1
Bonami 1 point ago +1 / -0

They may still be using commom core text books though. Obama mandated common core and required all schools to throw out prior texts. It was a huge book publishing contract, just under 700 million, the work was done by the same publisher who gave Obama a 65 million advance on his book. Surprise, surprise.

10
CuomoisaMassMurderer 10 points ago +10 / -0

CONGRATULATIONS Dad!!

Even if the curriculum isn't the best, yes getting away from the blm / sjw / Marxist agenda is priority #1. Here's to hoping your kid comes to appreciate the sacrifice sooner rather than later

6
Slice 6 points ago +6 / -0

Catholics are SJWs now. Become Protestant.

3
CuomoisaMassMurderer 3 points ago +3 / -0

I could never be Catholic, but like every other group they have split over sjw nonsense. RC who avoid it typically label as "the Church militant." Sounds like a reasonable substitute for saying "based.".

EO rocks! Idk f any of them have fallen to the sjw nonsense but I seriously doubt it.

Orthodox joke:

how many Orthodox does it take to change a light bulb?

What is change? Is heresy!

It is possible to be Pr and stay away from the nonsense, but every mainline branch has their sjws. Episcopal and Lutheran don't consider themselves Pr which is laughable, and even they have sjw central.

Each individual congregation having its own identity is inescapable. Doctrine shouldn't be that varied, and should never be swayed by the world.

If you think it's time for a different church, maybe it is: "come out from among them, and touch not the unclean thing."

His still small voice is precious; may it be clear to you in this step.

Sunrise movement uses kids as human shields for their protests. You did the right thing. Those kids end of with federal charges or felonies and they are screwed.

23
Cantshadowbanthemall 23 points ago +23 / -0

Yikes! I'm trying to teach my 7 yr old niece long division and multiplication so she can bypass common core completely and jump to calculus

7
OnlyTrump20 7 points ago +7 / -0

My mom was a school teacher in the late 50s and even then they were using some bizarre methods of teaching math. So she'd teach the easy way of doing it and the kids were so happy to finally get it. The "show your work" part is the hangup.

1
Cantshadowbanthemall 1 point ago +1 / -0

So I was one of those kids who would just show up, take the test and get all the answers right. I learned "short" division. This really came back to bite me in the ass when I was trying to divide polynomials in Calc 2. The teacher's face when I asked if he minded teaching me long division.

10
Slice 10 points ago +10 / -0

I'm sorry to tell you... But um... Your pope is an SJW. Of course catholic school is blue pilled.

3
MSG1000 3 points ago +3 / -0

Not all Catholics listen to everything the Pope says. They have splits like every other group.

2
Murica420 2 points ago +2 / -0

For schools it really depends on the diocese. Not great in many but there are plenty of good ones too. There are also independent Catholic schools that tend to be better. Even the bad ones are probably better than public schools though.

1
Ashigaru 1 point ago +1 / -0

At this point Common Core is the least concern, at least it has no SJW content.

2
rochrealtor 2 points ago +2 / -0

Common core is a national disaster. It removes our history and is designed that "all kids learn the samel". It's communist core.

I tried to convince my brother. He wouldn't shut up about the nearby schools closing down and poor people not being able to send their kids to school because the kids wouldn't have transportation to the far away schools. I told him that not only would there be schools nearby, but there would be a way for kids to get to school: carpool, bus, ride sharing... He wouldn't listen. Nobody listens.

Catholic schooled here... from Kindergarten through 5 years of Engineering college. It’s great. If one is not Catholic, the required religious curriculum can be annoying, but I had several non-Catholics (even some Muslims) who took the religious classes like it’s a history class rather than a morality class and they’re fine with it.

20
midgetpornrocks 20 points ago +20 / -0

I went to Catholic school my whole educational career. And while I agree to this up to high school, college was a complete waste. They shoved the whole SJW and diversity thing down our throats at a Jesuit university.

19
TexturePipe 19 points ago +19 / -0

At a Jesuit university ?!?! [[My Shocked Face]] I'm a devout Catholic and would never send my kids to one. They may have the legacy of an elite reputation, but they are big time into Woke SJW/diversity mindsets.

Changing schools is good, but remember that voting for who runs the school districts is also important as they still set the agenda for the nation's future.

LOTS and LOTS of us conservatives and Trump supporters have STILL not registered to vote. Even some Democrats who are switching sides have not registered. Do not assume that your state is safe, even local elections count as we have seen over the past 6 months!

Check your status, register yourselves and get others who are passionate about Trump and conservative values if you or they haven't yet registered:

https://www.usa.gov/register-to-vote#item-212645 (or check the side bar)

Remember that this is a numbers game and we need to WIN!

Homeschool is amazing. I get to help my boy learn. By the end of his Pre-K he could count to 100, do basic addition, read basic words, write the entire alphabet (legibly), and knew a good deal about our Country's true history.

So impressed I signed him up for Kindergarten and this year is going great so far! Not easy, but that is all right. Its worth it.

2
TP4bunghole 2 points ago +2 / -0

Awesome, great job. Not only will he learn more, you will get a lot out of it too, and your relationship with your son will be even stronger.

The concept that we should trust our sons to the authority of a bunch of women who know less than we do, and whose goal is to emasculate them, control them, make them insecure, and teach them to hate themselves and their history, is bizarre.

2
FutileConundrum 2 points ago +2 / -0

Amen to that.

I was private schooled and homeschooled growing up. Thankful for my parents sacrifice to make sure their kids had a real education.

School choice might help. At least parents would be able to choose where the money is going and private education would likely benefit.

And if you don't have kids in public school you shouldn't have to pay in to the public schools.

24
MAGAngelo 24 points ago +24 / -0

Amen, pede! Only the best for our children.

We homeschool our kiddos for that very reason. No way I’m letting them get chewed up in the “educational” system.

We started out of the gates homeschooling and never looked back. Each of my children are AT LEAST two grades ahead of where they are “supposed” to be.

None of that is forced, simply going at each of their natural paces.

Keep doing the Lord’s work!

IlxTheGreat 24 points ago +24 / -0

My sister (RN With Masters Degree,) and her husband (h.s. biology teacher with a PhD) wondered how my wife and I could afford to send our kids to private school, when they were struggling. Their combined income 225k$/yr, ours 75k$/yr. I told her, "its important to us that they receive a good education." We continued to send them until we moved out of Chicago. Then, 2 years of public school, then home schooled over the finish line. Then, 4 yrs college, 3 yrs grad school each. Still wish they'd take the Phd's, but that's another story.

13
BlondeBombshell88 13 points ago +13 / -0

How were they struggling with a $225k income?

19
Redheadgrrl 19 points ago +19 / -0

A lot of people don’t know how to manage their money.

A girl I work with spends An amount equal to my car payment each month on having Starbucks twice a day and eating lunch out everyday.

10
Husla67 10 points ago +10 / -0

Eh, if you're in a high cost of living area it can go away pretty quickly, especially if you're trying to keep up with the Jones. If the $225k/year includes a bonus (i.e., they get a large portion of their income at the end of the year) their net pay could be as low as $8k/month (still high I know). They're probably paying in the mid $3000s for their house/condo/apartment. If they're driving halfway decent cars that's ~$1000/month, food bill is probably $1000/month, tack on insurance, cell phone bills, gym memberships, hygeine/makeup/rogaine, weekend trips and you're easily spending about what you take in.

6
refresco 6 points ago +6 / -0

All that education might have some loans attached as well. I have an acquaintance who just passed the bar. He's got a shit ton of school loans to pay down.

9
IlxTheGreat 9 points ago +9 / -0

Geez, House, Campers, cars, my sister was never a good driver, and he never bought a new car, or truck so every 2 years, another 60k . Then when my nephew first started driving, he wrecked a car every other month. Send their daughter to Ireland, then Germany, then Turkey, then when she left for her "birth mother," my sister was "heart broken." I had to keep it straight. Niece has been every religion known to man or beast, gone thru vegan, vegetarian, and back again over 30 years. Now living with a Truck Driver, She's a librarian with a mountain of debt her parents signed for. Her brother, straightened out, Truck Driver, Farmer. Was always a great kid. My brother in law spends money like water, it's just that simple. My other brother in law made 1m$ year as Sales Engineer. and they were always playing catch up. I've been real happy with my life I think. 2 great kids, great wife, own my house and cars, ready to wrap it up but that's about it.

100%

Until these systems are producing CITIZENS, they need to be shelved.

I'll put it this way:

If the 18 y/o young-adult can't balance a checkbook, and doesn't know their rights and responsibilities under the Constitution, they have NO business trying to change the world through "peaceful" protest.

These systems are producing dependants of the state.

12
CuomoisaMassMurderer 12 points ago +12 / -0

Betsy DeVos was given her position for exactly this reason. And, I believe, to dispose of the DoE, which has no Constitutional authority to exist and made everything worse. She hasn't accomplished either.

I'm not saying that deserves an automatic firing, I just don't know why this hasn't gotten done.

4
Ashigaru 4 points ago +4 / -0

Legislation changing budget specifications is needed to change things. An appointed head of an agency can only do so much.

Welcome. You will look back at this decision as one of the best things you have and will EVER do for your child/children. (I have a Bachelor's in Math and another in Physics - not kidding)

Best. Investment. EVER.

15
crimsonfancy 15 points ago +15 / -0

The dems and their wild assertions, violence and down-speak are doing wonders for private education. I attended private school (my brothers did too) my entire life and I remember that my parents saved and went without often to ensure we were educated in honesty and faith. I'm no saint by any stretch but I do appreciate that I had the opportunity.

And beans and rice aren't bad at all. I eat red beans almost every Monday and cook black beans often. We also enjoy white beans and where I live we can get a pork but for .99 / # and splurge on the better andouille sausages. 12 oz good sausage and a bunch of smoked pork butt take beans over the top. I'll be happy to share tips and tricks here for beans of any kind, friends. I do it for a living. At home an electric pressure cooker (6qut) can get us dried beans to awesome in an hour or less total time investment. Canned beans are easy but nowhere near as good as we can do with dried.

5
CuomoisaMassMurderer 5 points ago +5 / -0

Dried beans are a fraction of the cost, too.

6
crimsonfancy 6 points ago +6 / -0

Exactly. I missed to mention this but it is key to the final, healthful filler.

13
beenaroundabit 13 points ago +13 / -0

It occurs to me that if school choice and vouchers that make the money follow the child exclusively, then private schools that teach a good non SJW curriculum are going to get fabulously wealthy.

7
CuomoisaMassMurderer 7 points ago +7 / -0

Not wealthy, no. Able to exist instead of being forced to close permanently.

The other side of the equation is that parents pay for the education once, instead of twice as it exists now.

It would also be much better for the public schools.

My wife was telling me there was actually quite a few programs offered by states and other organizations to help make it more affordable for parents to send their kids to private school. I don't personally know what these programs are, but it might be worth looking into.
