If people wish t preserve redwood and pine forests, the forest must burn regularly. Some pine cone species cannot even open their own cones without fire.

I've been in level 3 evacuation since noon, Blazer is loaded up. I'm still here though, got 500' of hose laid out. It's supposed to rain next week, hope I still have a house then.

It's not the first time. I've seen plenty of fires in my life. There is alot more homes and people now than when I was a kid. That does make it crazier I suppose. Every 10 years or so the same area will burn. It's the chaparral environment.
I had to use my windshield wipers so i could see out of my car. Just a huge layer of ash everywhere. I woke up and looked outside and its just hazy, i live near the beach, and an orange glow covering the entire sky. My first thought was wow i never wake up at this time of day, must be a beautiful sunrise down at the beach. A few hours later i look outside and its still orange. And because of the beachy overcast its everywhere, no idea where the fire is and dont smell smoke either. Pretty sure the whole state will be consumed soon enough. They got all hands on deck here, even flying in people from all over the western seaboard in order to figure out how they can blame this all on Trump.

ROFL, funny you should mention this, i live in the east bay area, and a coworker brings in the east bay times every day. they had a 1 page article where they blamed all the wildfires on trump and climate change. no mention whatsoever of controlled burns like they used to do back in the 70s/80s/90s. you know, back when wildfires werent out of control like they are now.
Even the ancient native tribes in California set controlled fires (better to flush out game from gameless redwood forests). And they still say that the Native Americans "respected Mother Nature".

I’ve never been to the Central Valley, only ever been in northern CA when I’ve gone to Tahoe. It was beautiful, and the people were good folks. They say the same thing - the cities are killing them. We have it here, too (Pittsburgh and Philthadelphia make our lives miserable up here in the forest). Same in NY. We don’t need to quarantine the Chinavirus, we need to quarantine the cities. It's not the first time. I've seen plenty of fires in my life. There is alot more homes and people now than when I was a kid. That does make it crazier I suppose. Every 10 years or so the same area will burn. It's the chaparral environment.
I had to use my windshield wipers so i could see out of my car. Just a huge layer of ash everywhere. I woke up and looked outside and its just hazy, i live near the beach, and an orange glow covering the entire sky. My first thought was wow i never wake up at this time of day, must be a beautiful sunrise down at the beach. A few hours later i look outside and its still orange. And because of the beachy overcast its everywhere, no idea where the fire is and dont smell smoke either. Pretty sure the whole state will be consumed soon enough. They got all hands on deck here, even flying in people from all over the western seaboard in order to figure out how they can blame this all on Trump.

That is EXACTLY what it looks like. I just tried to take a photo of it but my cell's camera compensates by altering the color balance until the sky is grey. Kinda frustrating. And it's really dark even though the sun is up.
