How about we just blind him with his own laser? That'd be fair, right?

Imagine going straight from your mother's basement, to jail.

Hammurabi lives!

4
Loiuzein 4 points ago +6 / -2

A person who seeks vengeance for vengeance breaks the code of "eye for an eye". The initial infraction results in punishment; seeking revenge on the just punisher is a new infraction in addition to being highly unethical.

1
Ballind 1 point ago +1 / -0

He tried to blind the cop, now the cop gets to try to blind him. What's unfair?

1
Loiuzein 1 point ago +1 / -0

That's what I said. The attacker attempted to blind the cop, therefore the just punishment is that the cop gets to try to blind the attacker. It is highly unethical for anyone to further retaliate against the cop.

2
peltast 2 points ago +2 / -0

This is nonsense.

It was the law for thousands of years, and, yet, curiously, back then the whole world was NOT blind.

I'd get behind punishments like this. There was a reason theft wasn't common when they cut your hands off for it.

Fair yes, 8th Amendment lawsuit against the police/courts and this guy becomes a millionaire on the backs of the tax payers.

33
chugginpillsofcolor 33 points ago +33 / -0

They need to fry his ass. A laser like that can blind from a considerable distance faster than you can blink.

32
DeportAntifa 32 points ago +32 / -0

Dude, what the fuck. That is insane.

What kind of psychopath wants to blind another human being over nothing

This is what happens when you convince a moron that wealth inequality is violence

15
DrBJTester 15 points ago +15 / -0

That's a really horrid thing to do and he had to understand what he was doing before hand. So premeditated and it's a war crime! Typical behavior for a Stalin style communist.

If this does not rate federal terrorism charges then those laws need to be rewritten.

32
permissible_missile 32 points ago +32 / -0

Just an FYI directed energy weapons are against the Geneva Convention, so he literally committed a war crime

4
jive-ass-turkey 4 points ago +4 / -0

There are a couple of threads on /pol that might interest you my friend.

They are saying they have footage of a DEW being used in California to help kindle the wild fires.

I'm sure it's completely BS but the webm I saw looked pretty cool.

4
the-new-style 4 points ago +5 / -1

The Geneva Convention doesn't cover Civil War. Only declared wars between signatories.

2
jive-ass-turkey 2 points ago +2 / -0

Uniformed combatants is the language, or close to it, iirc.

28
KarpLykov 28 points ago +28 / -0

Put him in the cell with the guy that wants to kill white men.

5
jive-ass-turkey 5 points ago +5 / -0

I like this but only if we give him the laser back first.

Poetically, that really should be his only means of defense.

Call it Thunderdome 2020 and stream it live.

We may be sitting on a gold mine here people.

magaspif 2 points ago +2 / -0

it may seem funny but when fights devolve like this would we are talking about scratching and biting and screaming.

I have a feeling Portland is going to start calming down now that the DA can’t stop them from being prosecuted.

4
Useful_Vidiots 4 points ago +4 / -0

the DA can’t stop them from being prosecuted

Why is that?

16
1600NWMagaAveWASHDC 16 points ago +19 / -3

The US Marshall’s deputized the Portland PD. So now they are arrested under federal prosecution bypassing the local jurisdiction. 4D move by trump to stop these riots

15
auroch 15 points ago +15 / -0

Didn't they deputize the Oregon State Patrol?

4
1600NWMagaAveWASHDC 4 points ago +4 / -0

Maybe you are right

6
morningpancakes 6 points ago +6 / -0

Definitely oregon state pd

4
Useful_Vidiots 4 points ago +4 / -0

That's what I thought I had read. Thanks for confirming that is the case here.

16
lacker101 16 points ago +16 / -0

In Oregon, Class B felonies are punishable by as many as ten years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, or both.(Or. Rev. Stat. Ann. §§ 161.605, 161.625 (2019).)

Have fun fuckwad.

It'll get plead down as much as they can get away with.

13
H1ddenAg3nda 13 points ago +13 / -0

The fact you can assault a police officer and then get bail is truly beyond me...

9
spez_this 9 points ago +9 / -0

About time. These are not your ordinary, everyday laser pointers. These high-power lasers can burn through paper and scorch wood. Imagine what they can do to your eyes.

9
fazaman 9 points ago +9 / -0

The kind of lasers that comes plastered with warnings to never use them without proper eye protection because they will cause instant permanent blindness just from reflections.

8
Ilikefries 8 points ago +8 / -0

And eye protection from lasers is very specific to the freq they operate in so there is not just some magical glasses you can wear. They are specific to the nanometer wavelength of that specific laser not other lasers

Kawdfather 7 points ago +7 / -0

It's about time this was prosecuted. Intentionally blinding someone is a horrific crime. I would not be surprised if this weapon is banned in any updates of the Geneva Convention.

6
Staatssicherheit 6 points ago +6 / -0

Nice eyes. Need some lasering.

5
dixond 5 points ago +5 / -0

Good. FUCK that guy.

5
spinpuppy1 5 points ago +6 / -1

Revoke his bail, set his pre trial hearing for 2037

4
dontUseVinegerAsLube 4 points ago +4 / -0

Portland Police? DA will let him go...

4
WidePepoSad 4 points ago +4 / -0

I'd just like to point out that if multiply his bail by 8, it equals the bail of Kenosha Kyle.

4
Hexagon 4 points ago +4 / -0

Feds should step in and charge him with a war crime.

2
FuckRioters 2 points ago +2 / -0

That's a good point. You could probably cross-reference videos near the federal court house, and find instances of him shining that same laser at the Feds.

“Got to do a quick eye check for booking Mr. Kelley. Go ahead and look into these for me please. ZAP, Gotcha bitch!”

A 36 year old man that spends his time doing this must be a real loser.

2
Salt-N-Pepe 2 points ago +2 / -0

Matthew Perry really did hit bottom this time

2
FertileMoor 2 points ago +2 / -0

How did they know it was him? Did it take a month to track him down? Pretty impressive.

2
FuckRioters 2 points ago +2 / -0

https://www.portlandoregon.gov/police/news/read.cfm?id=261165

At least one member of RRT realized that Mr. Kelley had repeatedly directed a laser into the RRT member's eyes, causing injury. Eventually, members of RRT were able to locate and arrest Mr. Kelley near Southwest 4th Avenue and Southwest Jefferson Street. He was found to be in possession of a laser (photo).

Detectives followed up on this case, and wrote search and arrest warrants, which were reviewed and signed by a judge. This morning, Portland Police Bureau detectives served those warrants and arrested Mr. Kelley

Sounds like they caught him on the same day, but these specific charges were filed later. My guess is that the Portland police were persistent in ensuring these charges were pursued, because otherwise they're putting their officers at severe risk for blindness.

1
JFellows72 1 point ago +1 / -0

Lasers point both ways?

2
bombthrowinggenius 2 points ago +2 / -0

Blind him and put him on an island full of scattered rabbit shit and dry dog food.

2

Very sick people put pricetags on the eyes of cops in the form of bailout money.

2
FuckRioters 2 points ago +2 / -0

Damn, I'm a little surprised to see them actually pursuing charges like this in Portland. I mean they absolutely should, but the leftist DAs seem to want to let everyone go.

If given a choice between $250k cash and having eyes that work, I'd pick working eyes any day. I would actually be okay with snipers executing persons who use lasers or throw molotovs, but it would be bad PR. I also have an idea for blinding people who shine lasers, but dare not post it publicly.

I hope he's put a way for a very long time. BTW, if you didn't click the link, there's a video of that laser burning a hole in paper.

They should just fire back an infared laser at these lowlifes with the lasers, they wouldn't even know what hit them.

1
TheNotSoEvilEngineer 1 point ago +1 / -0

These guys are idiots. You don't use visible spectrum lasers if you want to get away with it. Infrared or UV are invisible to the human eye and most cameras. They can still fry your eyes or optical sensor in an instant though if hit by a high enough power.

1
Balzenburg 1 point ago +1 / -0

Death penalty.

1
Zerwas 1 point ago +1 / -0

Throw the book at him with the force of Thors hammer.
What a psycho does this kind of shit? Maximum penalty! He needs lots of time to think about his dispicable actions.

1
AnAngryPotato 1 point ago +1 / -0

As soon as you see "his bail is" you know the rest of the sentence doesn't matter. he'll be right back on the streets and you know he ain't the one who paid bail.

1
LittleBlackKat 1 point ago +1 / -0

Unreal. Meanwhile a corrupt judge put a $2,000,000 bail on Kyle.

This guy can bond out with $25,000. Kyle needs to pay the full $2,000,000.

1
Justhalftheshaft 1 point ago +3 / -2

Yeah but most of the night he wasn’t blinding people with lasers.

1
TheRedPlanet 1 point ago +1 / -0
