In America, everyone has access to healthcare. Every. Single. Person. What some people don't have is insurance but anyone anywhere can schedule an appointment with any doctor at any time that the doctor is available. What that doctor expects is to be paid for their services. Same as any electrician, plumber, welder, gardener, mechanic, accountant, financial advisor, etc, etc, etc.
That lady looks like she is about 60 years old. She has had a lifetime to save up money and get on a health care plan. As entitled as she sounds, she probably voted for Obama who gave her the opportunity to sign up for the Affordable Care Act insurance plan(s). Even without that, she would only need to search the web for a few minutes to find information on how to get financial aid or low-cost treatment options.
I fucking knew they were going to pivot back to healthcare. Besides ballot harvesting, healthcare was the only reason the dems won the house in 2018. All they said was "healthcare" and people were falling over themselves to vote. Then the Dems proceed to do absolutely nothing involving healthcare and all their dumbass voters don't seem to care. It's unbelievable how stupid these people are
Been hearing about this for decades. I'm not saying I'm for socialized healthcare, but healthcare should definitely not be a reason why people go bankrupt.
People make the choice to spend that money on that treatment, no matter the price. My family was made destitute paying for my mother's brain cancer treatments. We went into it knowing the choices.
Just as if I was diagnosed with the same thing (which is possible, since it is genetic), I will make the choice of NOT taking the treatment, and instead living with what I have.
Every choice you make has a consequence, which no one seems to understand anymore. You have cancer. You can get the treatment, which might bankrupt you and even your children, or you can accept what is happening. Might seem cold, but life isn't easy.
Treating certain illnesses is your choice I agree, but not every medical emergency is something like cancer. An accident for example is something that can be completely out of your control.
If I am in a wreck, and am unable to pay for a treatment that would save me, then I don't get saved. Simple as that. Dying sucks, it does, but a choice is made at that point whether to pay the money or not.
When I was a kid, someone in the trailer park we lived in decided to get drunk and ride around in the back of the pickup truck of his friends. He fell out and fucked himself up. His parents made the choice to spend the money to keep him alive. He was 16 at the time, and was relegated to a wheelchair, unable to move, talk, eat, even blink. Last I saw, they were cleaning the diapers of the 40 year old, while living in a trailer that had become almost unlivable due to the medical costs they incurred. They made that choice.
People don't like to think that they have a choice, because one choice sucks so much, but they do. People not understanding that that choice is there is partially what has led to the problems we are having today.
People need to learn that EVERY choice has a consequence. Decide that you NEED internet for $60 a month? There is $60 that isn't there when you might need it for something else. People don't save for a rainy day anymore. People tend to rely on credit cards. Here is a simple tip: if you don't have the cash to afford it at purchase.....you don't get it.
Sorry this has turned into a rant, it's late and I'm just sick of people acting like medical treatments are a necessity. Modern medicine is a luxury, and you have to pay for luxuries.
The point is that Modern medicine should not be considered a luxury. I think this mentality is what allows big medical and pharma to get away with a lot of this shit.
Pointing out life altering accidents or illnesses is one thing, but it's ridiculous to think that even a minor accident cost as much as it does.
I want more competition and choice when it comes to healthcare, not less and not socialized. There is NOTHING wrong with wanting cheaper healthcare.
While you think that it SHOULDN'T be considered a luxury, it is. GEOTUS has made great strides in bringing costs down, but it is still a service that has to be paid for.

An interesting take from gamergater turned commie
Neither is astronomicaly high medical bills.
There has to be a happy medium.
The astronomically high bills are mainly due to government regulation.
Been hearing about this for decades. I'm not saying I'm for socialized healthcare, but healthcare should definitely not be a reason why people go bankrupt.
Socialized healthcare isn't cheaper. They just bankrupt nearly everybody with taxes, and then provide poor and/or dangerously delayed medical care.
Nobody in their right mind would say that our medical system is perfect. Which is why I said that there has to be a middle ground.
Nobody should have to go into financial ruin if they slipped on some ice and destroyed their knee.
If de-regulation is there answer.... Well we are still waiting.
