Same. Family owned, owners actually work at the store, and are Trump supporters. I buy as much there as I possibly can because I don't want to see my local businesses disappear.

My ACE has massive signs “one case will shut down the whole store.” “No mask no entry” “we don’t need your germs or business”. Haven’t been back. Mostly I’ve been to Lowe’s because they never put up a bouncer like HD.

Parkyr413 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yeah, the only thing Lowe’s has done is make 1 single check out line in my home town. The butcher has been the craziest, he’s got mandatory hand sanitizer, no phone use allowed in store, he’s got some sanitation goo you have to step in to go in.

1
aconcernedtroll 1 point ago +2 / -1

I kinda understand the precautions the butcher is taking. He's also doing covid theatre, fwiw, he'd probably lose business if he didn't show everyone the precautions he's taking.

And no phone use in stores is something that I've seen commonly in a lot of places where people are waiting in line to request orders. Really speeds up things on busy days. I can't count how many times I've been caught behind slow moving traffic, then filtered up on my motorcycle to see that it's caused by idiots on their phones sitting through green lights.

-1
Homopratensis2 -1 points ago +1 / -2

Lowes sucks tho. Place is for selling curtains and lighting and other bullshit. Walk in an ask where the rebar is (because it sure isn't where it should be...by the bags of concrete/blocks). You get a look of utter confusion. Then hike around the retarded place with your stupid cart and mask and drag 560 lbs of stuff around. Get in line behind half blind boomer woman writing a darn check for a toilet seat. Great times. Oh for the traditional lumber yard where you cound walk up to the counter which had a normal looking woman without a damn nose ring and ask for 6 bags of concrete mix, two bags of type s mortar, a box of 2 inch nails, and a dozen 2x8x8s of yellow pine and hand her a hundred and she'd make change then you drive over to the lumber yard and a teenager puts it in your truck and you drive off.

You know the Ferengi are supposed to be Jews right?

Instead of a cartoonishly large nose they swapped them for ears and hoped no one would make the connection. Hell, I watched the show for 25 years before it dawned on me.

Sorry if I just broke the glass for you on that, as that is all I could see when it came to anything dealing with the Ferengi once I made the connection.

But it isn't really surprising. I have gone back and watched TNG a couple times and the Commie underpinnings of Rodenberry's world are pretty blatant.

When you really think about their world the fantasy falls apart. Real humans don't act like they do in Star Trek. And there is no way we can "evolve" in such a short period of time to change our very nature.

Were they ever able to really invent a Holodeck, if you don't think there would be a permanent line around the block to use it, and a full time jizz mopper to clean it out in between customers, you are having a laugh.

11
Fourtyandfourtyfive 11 points ago +11 / -0

Your Holodeck assessment was (kinda) addressed in DS9.

Holodecks are for adventures, climbing Everest, Helping Sherlock solve a mystery or battling side by side with Kaehless.

Quarks bar had Holosuites. I.E. Low rent motel complete with disease and pregnancy free hookers!

3
Homopratensis2 3 points ago +3 / -0

Nailed it. It was very important for non human races, the vulcans and klingons in particular, to blow off steam. They both had intense libidos and in the case of vulcans death was a consequence of failure to mate. Even half race characters like Warf and Spock which were half human aluded to this, and their libidos were less than that of a full member of their race.

1
jive-ass-turkey 1 point ago +1 / -0

What about Barclay's little menage with Troi and Dr. Crusher they caught him getting ready to do? Which they alluded to not being the first time he had done so, when they complained about all the time he'd been spending on the Holodecks.

They were just holding hands and playing funny-face all that time?

Are you trying to tell me Riker didn't close the deal with Minuet?

As far as I can tell, there are no protections on the Holodeck to stop crew members virtually cloning other crew members, without consent, and having sex with them.

That is the conclusion the evidence in TNG leads one to reasonably believe, IMO.

DSP and TNG are set in the same time frame right?

Check and back to you, Trekker.

2
Fourtyandfourtyfive 2 points ago +2 / -0

Barkley was a mental case. Almost run out of Starfleet for shenanigans like this.

Riker (Minuet) was conceived by alien tech merged into Holodeck tech and Rikers subconscious. Drew on emotions he wasn’t really aware of.

It’s about time and place. Technically you could rent the presidential suite at Trump Hotel and sweat it up like B Clinton with a $2.00 hooker.

(How in the hell did we get to talking about hooker-bots instead of Ace hardware??)

The economy of dilithium crystal was by no means unbounded by the principle of scarcity. The romulans enslave and entire counter race-the Riemans-to mine the toxic shit. Dilithium is analogous to uranium or other fissile material by the way. And replicators are energy based. In Voyager they needed to cook food in order to conserve energy which was definitely finite.

1
SirPokeSmottington 1 point ago +1 / -0

They have what is essentially free energy, which eliminates resource competition.

Imagine if all our goods suddenly cost nearly nothing to make or purchase.

I think you massively overestimate the cost of electricity to produce goods. The near complete cost of an item is the material to produce the item. Then labor, THEN energy.

Homopratensis2 3 points ago +3 / -0

Look, that the Ferengi were Jews, the Klingons Russians/Soviets, and Romulans Imperial Romans is plainly obvious. Roddenbury was of Jewish background. And Picard was the ideal liberal leader. Secular, hates children, intensely committed to the ethical principles of the federation, hyper competent.

1
MAGA_MEXICAN_CHILI 1 point ago +1 / -0

Hence why Kirk and Sysco are by far the better captains. Archer and Janeway are a close second but Picard will always be low on the totem pole because of how much his character was nothing more than a mouthpiece to spew moralism.

Kirk was a Patriot to the Federation, he understood what needed to be done and was practical in his approach. So much that he did everything to stay in the chair because he knew the politics of climbing the latter was just to saddle him nonsense. He loved and lost but his loyalty was to his friends and crew.

Benjamin Sysco was also a Patriot, he did what no other Federation Officer could or would do in the dire straits during the Dominion War and he did it while trying to keep his son safe.

What did Picard do....Opine and give speeches, he cared little for his crew often alienating himself from them. He hated family and children and cared more for regulation. The writers just wrote in his MacGuffins because they had no other choice but do do so.

1
jive-ass-turkey 1 point ago +1 / -0

Anyone that hates children is not fit to be a leader, IMO.

I love Picard but that always came off to me like the writer's bias.

Picard is a philosopher and renaissance man but he hates kids?

That only makes sense in some ivy league leftist writer's imagination because they hate kids and want to identify with the hero.

2
Homopratensis2 2 points ago +2 / -0

He us s fictional character. It's ok for it to not make perfect sense.

3
MonkeyCzarFunny 3 points ago +7 / -4

Source? And please don’t say ‘well. it’s obvious.’

1
Homopratensis2 1 point ago +2 / -1

It's obvious. Roddenberry probably admitted it before he died too. Just look for it.

1
jive-ass-turkey 1 point ago +1 / -0

It is pretty well documented but I won't attempt to "prove" it here.

I am not sure you can prove something like this, now that I think about it. Make up your own mind about it. I am not trying to push anything, just inform.

I will address your actual concern though.

I am not some anti-Semite that hates Jews. No group of people all feel or act a certain way. Anyone that makes sweeping bias statements like that is pretty juvenile, IMO, regardless of the demo in question.

However, I am also not afraid to discuss Jews as a group and think anyone trying to summarily shut down conversation on any topic is wrong and their motives should be investigated.

I think Rodenberry probably was pretty biased against Jews, based on what I've read about him. I'd say he was part of the self-hating leftist Jew phenomenon, but again I am far from an expert. I haven't read a ton about him. There are literally hundreds of thousands of people far more knowledgeable on this subject than I.

I am not so sure what about the above is so controversial.

If TD.win wants to become the Yin to the Reddit hivemind's Yang, this this seems like a pretty good way to do so.

Sorry if this ruffled some jimmies, that was not my intent.

It’s kinda a well known thing among Trek fans. Just google Ferengi are Jews.

LOL, wow, you burst the bubble for a lot of newbie Trek fans.

My gf that didn't even know the Ferengi by name, only in passing, I played a video for her, and 7 seconds in, without prompt said, oh they are Jews?

2
MAGA_MEXICAN_CHILI 2 points ago +2 / -0

I do remember that controversy and it was so bad that the writers had to say something about the Ferengi. However it was a pretty bad caricature, trying to create a race of Space Capitalists and inadvertently creating Space Jews .

Uh-oh. Speak to the manager? That sounds like something Karen would say

3
RabidZoo 3 points ago +4 / -1

I think we're trying to sway from 'Karen' to 'Hillary' now...considering they're mostly high and mighty liberal wenches doing the chastising. Some Pedes were discussing the other day that they're trying to stick the 'Karen' tag to conservative ladies...so we're going to turn that around and slam the left by calling them their queen bitch.

2

Ace is great in general. I always shop at the one in our town - I think they’re independent franchises so this bacon incident would be dealt with by the local store owner. I love our ace hardware here they would never be like that to police

15
GeneralVeers 15 points ago +16 / -1

Ace USED to be great, until they contracted a minor "woke" infection and changed their slogan from "helpful hardware man" to "helpful hardware FOLKS". So, yeah. Ever since then, it's been Home Depot for me.

(side note: with very few exceptions, the only places I see women working at hardware stores are the gardening section and the cash registers)

Anyone that immediately discounts someone purely because of their own perceived notions of what "knowledgeable" will look like usually can't be helped anyway. Imagine telling a grunt to listen to LTC Vindman for DA tactics because of his age and pretty medals over a 25 year old SSG. in 2nd Battalion. Arguments based on this logic are destroyed so easily because of the old adage "to not judge the book by it's cover".

In other news, an unidentified employee at Ace Hardware was arrested on shoplifting charges. The employee insists he was framed, and is currently hospitalized with multiple blunt-force injuries to his face and head. So far no witnesses have come forward. More on the story as it develops.

All Ace Hardwares are independently owned. They are essentially small businesses, family owned and often multi-generational. The employee culture is largely determined by the owners not the corporation wich mostly operates as a warehouse. My family owns an ACE and that shit would be treated with zero tolerance. We fly the flag, we support the local police, and we openly talk about our support of Trump with like-minded employees.

That's surprising. Ace usually lives up to it's name by me: extremely helpful and knowledgeable staff. I could see it coming from a cashier, which are almost exclusively high school girls, but I wouldn't expect that to be tolerated.

I will say that this statement sounds odd. Either they are severely downplaying what the employee did or the cop really got that testy over "I smell bacon". I realize that many cops are under stress and very demoralized, but this is still just a small insult. Disrespect for our men in blue is shameful, but c'mon man. Still it might be Ace downplaying.

I don't know if this individual cop was. I know my local police chief told the mayor he would not arrest or ticket anyone for his mask mandate. This is also the same police department that pissed everyone off when they had a Sgt. say that "frankly we aren't shooting enough black people" and dude kept his job because the media ran with their false narrative without the context of that cops are getting killed for hesitating because of race.
