So to put it simply, I come from a family where my mom was one of ten kids, and of her brothers and sisters, nearly all of them are teachers. So they've never really experienced the world outside the world of academia.

I also had some friends who I had known from high school of multiple races, who know I'm a pretty cool guy to hang around.

Well, I basically made an announcement that I was planning on moving to Alaska to become a police officer. And lets just say, I was not expecting the amount of hate I got from it.

My one cousin who is a lesbian and a gym teacher started slamming me calling me racist, homophobic, and asked how dare I go into a profession like that when all they do is hurt minorities.

Some of my former friends turned out to be members of the BLM organization, and immediately cut me off, especially after I brought up the crime statistics. And they claimed those statistics were false because they were created by a racist system, and no black person would EVER actually commit a crime.

I mean, I guess I should be glad that they're no longer in my life because I don't need that kind of negativity.

But goddam, seems like its so easy for people to turn on you these days.

I'll admit I had my doubts about becoming a police officer because each day I find myself growing tired of seeing all the bullshit attacking police in the media, and I was starting to think the BLM protestors deserved it if they got their asses kicked and they didn't deserve protection. In a way I still think that.

But I also know if someone doesn't take a stand, than no one will.

If I ever have to unfortunately go to midtown Walmart, I think I'm the only white guy there. Small percent is black, largest percent is hmong, samoans, native alaskans, and asians. kinda interesting.

Not just that the world needs officers but good ones. So these reactions just seem to so dumb to me you would think they would realize police will be a thing either way and they are better off encouraging “good people” to join. I think if anything police need more funding or it directed to better pay etc. The better you can incentivize a job the more quality applicants there will be.

This feels like the vietnam vets all over again.

When the left attacked the military and soldiers, calling them baby killers, spitting on them as they walked by in uniform, attacking recruitment centers, etc;

But if you bring that up to any leftist, even ones that were alive back then, they'll lie and deny that any of that ever happened.

I suspect the same will be true of BLM in a few years.

66
bidensmissingbrain 66 points ago +66 / -0

Except back then not everyone and their cat had a video recorder in their pocket. Going to be pretty hard to deny this crap happened when there's hours of footage of it happening.

You would think the democrats would eventually learn to NOT be on the wrong side of history. But it happens, again and again. Slavery, the KKK, the Civil Rights Act, so many examples of them being on the wrong side of history. I'm sure this will be no different; supporting riots, arson, vandalism, murder, but all that is A-OKAY as long as you support BLM. I can only hope history will not be kind to them.

1
BillionsAndBillions 1 point ago +2 / -1

1
Libertysheimdall1 1 point ago +1 / -0

This is precisely correct. The same level of derangement is present.

But it’s ok because the worm turns. Ten years later we got the 1980s and the script was flipped. It’s coming.

It is okay to walk away from family that are pieces of shit.

13
Cyer6 13 points ago +13 / -0

It's said that blood is thicker than water. But from my experience and most would agree, family members use, abuse and manipulate one another often more than your own friends, acquaintances and strangers. I've seen it in my own family and extended family the way they've taken advantage of one another, and it's happened to me once. When someone in your family says "c'mon, we're family," that's a tactical tool of manipulation. You can have a deep devotion, love and respect for your family but I think it's OK to break that bond when it's necessary.

This is the reaction of a sheep.

If they really cared and thought critically about the situation, they would be delighted to hear that you (someone whom they believe is a good person, otherwise they wouldnt be friends with you) are becoming a police officer because they would believe it would help the situation they feel is bad.

This just shows how brainwashed and conditioned they are. It's part of the cancerous collectivist mindset the left epitomizes today.

I lost a lifelong friend who I actually share a birthday with.

He has a restaurant that bares the symbol of that black power fist, but its white.

This was fairly recently, after floydd. Tried telling him this is the same 1-2 punch that happened during the 2016 election and the media turns on & off the racial unrest like turning on a light switch.

He told me that I need to stop reading fox news and Breitbart and "far right" news sources, a phrase only really uttered by far leftist, ironically. This is a guy who claims he's moderate and an independent, who I have always thought of being naive and politically ignorant. In 2016 I asked him to name one single Republican he likes- being the independent moderate he claimed to be. He had to think for a moment and then he said... wait for it...John McCain. This was right around the time McCain wheeled his worthless ass into congress to vote against repealing obamacare(a position he ran his campaign on twice, only to betray his voters. Shocker).

I suggested to him that maybe he wasnt very politically aware and not an expert on news sources, being that he has that stupid fist that is synonymous with marxist movements and communism. That was just about the last words that were spoken. He replied and explained why he chose that symbol and it had nothing to do with communism- he was completely unaware of the symbols implications, and then he said he was blocking me. Deluded leftist. Every political talking point hes ever spoken was of left wing ideology. Every single one. He also had that arrogance that progressives and independents get that they're just above it all. He blocked me after that.

You know the swasitka was first a native american symbol for peace. I wouldnt open a restaurant and put a swastika up as my logo and expect people to think native american peace symbol...

Welcome to the club! The world is full of criminals. It will always have criminals. As long as there are criminals, law enforcement is needed. All your friends and family can yell at the top of their lungs at "how racist you are!" But...when shit hits the fan and life throws a curveball and they are stuck in a situation that can be life and death...they will call 911. Because in those dire moments..."racism, homophobia, hate against minorities" goes right out the window. Why? Because people dont want to fucking die. And because they dont....they will always need law enforcement. Social justice...BLM...Crazy democrats...antifa...all of them will call 911 if they think they are gonna die or need immediate help. Trust me.

The USA is about 30% understaffed and under budget for police resources compared to other countries. It's also been proven through several studies that increasing the police budget by 10% REDUCES the number of people in prison by 5%. So if you want FEWER people in prison, you need MORE cops.

Anybody who is anti cop is an absolute moron. You can be against corruption and brutality, but pro cop. The two are certainly not indistinguishable.

You can ALSO want more programs for at risk youth. However the biggest elephant in the room is teachers. Why is nobody holding their feet to the fire for their role in cranking out kids that go straight to prison.

2
DrVSGGEOTUSPhD 2 points ago +2 / -0

How does more cops result in less incarceration? Is it because potential criminals look at all the cops and and understand they'll get caught, and so just don't do crimes?

2
flashersenpai 2 points ago +2 / -0

I don't know if that's the case specifically, but certainty of punishment is a greater deterrent than severity of punishment.

2
Bramble 2 points ago +2 / -0

Something like that. When there are more cops there is more deterrent from commiting major crimes. With fewer cops, there is more reported crime, so they spend more time arresting people and not protecting and deterring other crimes. More major criminals in prison means fewer people in accomplice roles also, less petty crime.

6
michaelsuede 6 points ago +6 / -0

Felon who is on video attempting to shoot a child in the head gets off with no charges. Now he's on video leading riots and calling for a communist revolution. It's liberals that turn on each other easily. They're so self-absorbed that they can only interact with people that are mirrors of themselves. Anything not like themselves is reflexively rejected.

Good luck future Alaskan police pede. Walk with God.

6
Dialectic 6 points ago +6 / -0

Well I think civilized society needs you patrolling, because if you don’t arrest people and use less-lethal means, then it falls on the roughnecks to take care of business and that usually results in death.

So remember that when they get you saddled up with a sweet pension and get you on the order-following mentality. You and yours standing around, letting terrorists burn cities shows people like me that your job is superfluous and that I need to enforce a harsher justice.

Be mindful of your superiors and your orders. Be willing to risk your job and pension.

6
Thethethe 6 points ago +6 / -0

Know it hurts but anyone who is willing to drop you out of your life because you've decided to pursue a legal (and respectable) line of work and even more so quoting BLM trash at you, wasn't a big loss. Enjoy Alaska.

5
IlxTheGreat 5 points ago +5 / -0

The toughest part is going to be drawing the line between your personal life and your professional life. Cop families have a lot going for them in that respect, and you're going to need the mental help to get thru it. Find a good partner with a happy family life. They'll let you in. It will help. Eventually your family will get past it, or they won't. Either way, you'll have your own family by then. Enjoy the ride.

Never make a decision based on what other people will think of you. Never decide how to live your life based on others’ expectations. Have the courage of your convictions. Do what you think is right, even if the whole world is against you. Hopefully, your principles are good ones. If you joined the military with a plan to roll into law enforcement, it sounds like you already have a desire to perform selfless service. Best of luck, bother.

4
verycute 4 points ago +4 / -0

Friends are people you like and trust, and who like and trust you. You do things with your friends because they are your friends, only young children are friends with people just because they are around. Though many people have problems making this transition to adult friendship. It's impossible to be friends with a leftist as they can't be trusted. Finally family can be friends, but it's not necessary if for some reason they can't be trusted.

Use this info to quickly sort out who is a friend and who is not, and then don't waste time on people who aren't your friends.
