Mattis was my division commander in Iraq. I loved the guy. I still think he's one of the best battlefield commanders the US has produced in the last 50 years.

That being said, he was an average theater commander, and a poor comparison to Petraeus.

My opinion at the time was that he was a marginal SecDef, and now my opinion is that he was traitorous.

It's often said that it would have been better for everyone if Benedict Arnold had died at Saratoga....it may have been better for everyone if Mattis died during the fall of Baghdad.

I wouldn't go as far as you in the criticism. But I remember being in theater under Petraeus and Odierno. Traitorous? I'm not so sure. Stupidity? Yes.

A lot of the officers wanted the cozy jobs after their retirements lobbying for more war. For us enlisted, the only thing we looked forward to was merc work or a shit civilian life where your first 4 years is trying to calm down and not kill people.

Mattis didn't get his big paycheck. Fuck you Mattis, get like everybody else. You're retired. You're not a general anymore. So fuck off.

It's a class issue. It was always about class. He wanted to go up in class. He wanted more money. Trump stopped him so he said bad things about Trump. Us working class stiffs see this shit for what it is. You got greedy, you should not have. Shut up and do the job you're assigned to. Mattis couldn't hack it.

Is he a traitor? I don't think so. Can he perform the job he was assigned in a world where we don't want to bomb everyone? Absolutely fucking not. Out to pasture with him.
