The problem with public hangings is it often turns those people into martyrs for their cause. Public executions only work in totalitarian systems where you live under the boot and gun barrel of the government where people are so demoralized that they have no hope of fighting back.

I'm also against arson, but wildfires are unavoidable. We have so many of them now because decades of fire suppression policies by the US forest service have created a massive fuel load. So much of the American west is a tinderbox, arson or not.
The fire locations on the map follow the interstate and access roads. Not power grids, not storms (no lightning storms in WA). They follow human (ie: antifa) access points.

There was a wind storm that came through WA and OR (with 60 mph winds) that knocked down trees, branches, and power lines. Not saying all of the fires were started that way, but some were. No doubt there were/are arsonists going around (and maybe some stupid/careless people too). It's a mix of both, I think.
