Its been tried several times but is gaining more and more support. Basically taking the Red parts or NorCal and SoOr and creating a new red state.

I wouldn't doubt if that's part of the impetus for the fires right now - it costs about twenty bucks and a set of balls to create high levels of destruction, chaos, and distraction by setting big fires, and double bonus because you're doing it in the back yards of those locally most likely to oppose you. Target softening? Sounds reasonable to me.
