It's definitely a double standard, but technically they could work with law enforcement and get location data when he logs in next if they leave his account up. Especially if he has a social media addiction and will just impulsively log on eventually.
I doubt that's what facebook's doing though. They love to normalize this behavior and remove groups that try to stop it.
