We did too. We gave it up last year. And before anyone calls me a loser for loving sportsball, I'd like to explain something. Some families, like ours, used Sunday football to gather our family together each week. Dad would grill. We'd bring a dessert. Sometimes it was just hotdogs and watermelon, and watching the Saints lose but it was WONDERFUL because we were together. No one gets louder during a game than my Mom! We would laugh SO hard as she berated Drew!
The NFL broke our hearts because they fucking destroyed our tradition. We are doing "movie night" now, but it's shit. Fuck the commie bastards that ruined sports.
Fine. We'll cancel shitty movie night. We'll just throw playing cards in a fucking hat on the floor. Made in America playing cards. MAGA hat. Using only our right hands. While discussing politics, because every single second of every fucking day has to be 100% about politics now.
I'm not mad at you. Please don't misunderstand. But I will not have my parents much longer and I just wanted to enjoy some fucking sportsball games and talk mindless shit about the teams and players, because we get to spend time together and laugh, and not think about cancer or commies taking over the White House. BUT every single thing now is an anti-American commie cancel-culture psi-op and it makes me bitchy.
Thanks for sharing your story. Our family had the same tradition.
Football wasn't a sport to us... it was a catalyst for family, food, and fun... like any other holiday.
We've traded NFL racism for board games and are having a blast! We serve lots of food, alchol, and laughter. It's still competitive and fun.
I wish you the best, and if you'd like any suggestions for amazing, fun board games, feel free to message me. (Mom could get more raucous with games than movies :)
