Legal immigration is what our country is built on...people who strive to be here correctly and make society better

There was no visa lottery, family based immigration, or welfare state in the period you're referring to.

In the Ellis island days we did indeed have vetting. We turned back people who couldn't support themselves or who showed signs of physical or mental illness.

The people who built this country are NOTHING LIKE the gimmiedats coming here today.

Founding a city in the middle of nowhere is nothing like coming to an already established area, taking up a seat, failing to integrate, and sending remitances back home.
