Firefighters, cops, combat arms military, they’re all athletes. Just very, very poorly paid in comparison to sportsball athletes. Shows where our priorities are as a society I guess
Also, I’ve heard the terms ‘occupational athletes‘ thrown around for firefighters and cops, and ‘tactical athletes’ for SWAT-type police and combat troops. Regular line infantry work was hard enough for me, but hearing stories of Delta operators climbing/jumping up between the balconies of Iraqi high rises to raid a target is just mind boggling. Same with the firefighters on 9/11. That’s some Olympic-level athleticism right there
