One of the main reasons I got off Sportsball was when i started to fully realize they don't do anything. They don't make anything. They muddy up a field, they stretch out netting, they cause a little wear and tear that needs to be cleaned up. There was no service, no 'thing', no product. They aren't even training themselves up for war since we aren't hurling javelins or cannon balls anymore.
This may sound strange but it would actually make sense to me if the most popular "sports" were things like 'Iron Chef' or instead of curling there were actual hallways and contestants battled to clean them the fastest. I say this because we'd be cheering for 'training' or acts that actually improve society and lead to ... better food, cleaner buildings, whatever but super skills for making or doing real life things and benefits.
*yes i do get the idea of entertainment value - distractions. the men's 'soap opera' to escape from life a bit. I don't think these corporate sportsball things are actually that good for escapism but i get that part too
