What really hit me was the audio of the people on the ground going “what is happening”. They were literally in a war zone, having to watch in real time and come to terms thousands in those buildings will die.
They weren't coming to terms with thousands dying then. They were trying to figure out how to save their own skin, at best. The shock of the rest of it took longer to process.
I can't imagine the trauma and therapy the 911 operators had to go through hearing people die on the phone like that.
