This is really difficult. My dad, dead now over 25 years, was such a huge Steelers fan and it rubbed off on us kids. Watching the games on sundays always took my back to the times we spent watching away games at home (he and his crew had season tickets so home games was just mom and us kids).

Such good memories, but dad was a patriot who lied about his age to join the navy at 15 after Pearl Harbor. He served on the USS Franklin and almost didn’t make it back. The majority of his friends, and my uncle, never did.

I won’t be watching the NFL unless they get their shit together, but it’s a real loss.

Pretty similar story. Still remember the Bradshaw/Hanratty debates. They have told us they don't want us anymore. Quitting is one of the easier things i have done.

Pro sports (especially football) are a replacement for actual combat and violence in the form of entertainment. A catharsis if you will. It is a form of pretend tribalism that is actually supposed to bring us more together as a united country ie not be preachy or political but rather a pure competition among the best of the best. Fans are simply buying into that experience (for whatever person reason) as a way to share in the experience.

That is the messed up part of the social justice shoehorning in sports. It's like they are all saying "fuck the middle class audience, we get paid by the elites and big multinational corporations not average American fans." Almost like they are showing what a big scam the whole thing is and how little it has to do with competition and real sport.

The Steelers you watched with your dad are not the same as the Steelers of today.

3
SpaFixr 3 points ago +3 / -0

No doubt about that. They were STEELERS, not just guys looking for the biggest contract.

DoYouBelieveInMAGA 2 points ago +2 / -0

Memories are memories. NFL cucking doesn't affect memories.

Depends where and when you grew up. Football is a religion in Pittsburgh.

Wearing another man's name on your back is gay. Are you gay? It's ok if you're gay just accept you've put another man's name on your back.

There’s little worse in the fashion sense than a middle aged guy in a freaking basketball jersey. It’s socks with sandals level of cringe.

2
DifferentUsername 2 points ago +3 / -1

Excuse me. I do happen to have another man’s name on my back. My father’s after he passed away. A tattooed memorial piece. Does that still make me gay?

I couldn't enjoy sports now even if i wanted to. Just get a massive feeling of emptiness and zero connection with what's going on. I'd been losing interest somewhat as players and owners got wealthier and wealthier and more and more obnoxious, but i could still easily enjoy the spectacle. Now that's not even possible.

Ubisoft sucks a fat one. The gaming media have gotten worse than the msm.

That said, yeah I’m filling time replaying some of my favorites. Currently redoing Witcher 3. I’ll buy the new PlayStation in oct/nov or whenever it comes out

It might be my favorite of all time. Definitely in my top five along with GTA 5, horizon zero dawn, Skyrim and maybe Fallout 4. Get the Two DLCs if you haven’t. The platform exclusive content thing sucks.

Since the kneeling began in 2016. Was a Patriots fan since the 70s as a kid too. Gave them 5 years until bankruptcy, right on target.

Been doing it since that faggot in San Francisco took a knee. Was a lifelong cowboy fan from dallas. No more, ever.

that faggot in San Francisco took a knee

you're going to have to narrow it down for us.

Boycott all professional sports. They are all pushing it.

3
BeanieBeanTX 3 points ago +3 / -0

They are dead to me since crapperdick’s shenanigans. Leadership there needs to take control and only hire people who love the game. Fuck all this political shit in sports.

What is this "NFL", of which you speak?

3
Blurpy 3 points ago +3 / -0

NFL, MLG, NHL, NBA are now ALL Marxist Aligned Organizations.

Sports Viewers are funding the violent overthrow of the USA.

Views=relevancy=clicks=cash for Antifa and BLM.

"But muh games!" "Reeee! I need to watch anyway."
You watch these games, and don't change the channel, YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM. FACT.

I have remembered for the last 4 years. Tomorrow will be no different. In fact, I will be installing a new kitchen faucet and sink. It is amazing what you can do in the 3 hours that you wasted watching men play with balls.

I find it strange that every thing about the Thursday nite game that I have read,it's all about the protest and nothing about the game.I haven't even seen the score.

2
KuhlooKuhlay 2 points ago +2 / -0

I don't get the impression that the game was very competitive.

2
General_Safety 2 points ago +2 / -0

Wait. Darn.

I boycotted them last year.

What do I do now?

I gotta say I think this would fall into the category of annoying behavior. Just stop watching and move on. Doesn't have to become a crusade. I mean if the topic comes up speak your piece, but I'd be more in favor of maybe doing something productive with your time on Sundays or perhaps even I dunno... maybe actually honoring the sabbath in some way.

Don't you agree that it's kind of annoying to preach about boycotting stuff to the uninitiated? Like a vegan telling you about factory farms while you're eating cheeseburger kind of thing.

Again, if the topic comes up I'm fine with an open discussion. I just think preaching about normal life choices (especially trivial stuff like what you watch on TV) is very annoying.

Ironically, the Simpsons would be a good example of what I'm talking about though. They have gone full virulent anti-Trump and anti-Republican/conservative and are even pretty openly hostile to America and Americans in general. They also have fallen for all the SJW stuff like replacing Apu and other lame stuff. However, if people want to watch it I wouldn't spend much time trying to convince them not to. I might bring up some of these gripes in a general conversation though if appropriate.

In fact I've even gone on pirated/free streaming sites myself and watched some newer episodes in addition to the classics. It's a lot more hit and miss now, but if I knew someone who was a fanatic of the Simpsons in current year I wouldn't lecture them about how they are supporting the anti-American, anti-religion, pro-globalist, etc. Disney corporation.

I've been boycotting them for as long as I've lived. I'll keep it up and hope they go under one day.

1
KuhlooKuhlay 1 point ago +1 / -0

I don't think that's how boycotts work. You can't just take something you didn't ever like or participate in and say you've boycotted it. For example, I'm not boycotting gay bathhouses.

Remember, the same NFL commissioner and same owners black listed Colin when they had a chance to actually do something some saw as positive. Now they trip over themselves to pander to a population that comprises probably 20pct of their viewership and even less of their merchandise sales, because NOW they think they have nothing to lose by doing so. The dictionary definition of cowards, they dont have conviction, they do whatever is popular.. Go Bills but fuck the NFL
