For the left a lot of things are just something like tokens and abstract issues. Just as Trump is some nebulous idea of a bad guy to them. They don't care about details, they don't care about facts.

They care about narratives (propaganda & perception) and allegiances (tribalism & Collectivism).

They'd support ANYTHING including rape, murder and pedophilia if it serves them to gain power. Just as they'd support ANY group that opposes their enemies (like islam and CCP).
