They didn’t mandate a 21 year old drinking age, they used coercion by threatening to withhold highway funds from any state that didn’t raise its drinking age to 21. Prior to that many places had a drinking age of 18.
Universal suffrage is what kills every republic. You end up letting tons of people dependent on the system or with no stake in it voting on what happens with it.
If a 14 year old can consent to having sex with an adult male, than a 16 year old should be able to vote. Liberal logic.
