My humble opinion would be to start in this order -
get your concealed handgun permit.
handgun (I recommend glock 19 with a quality light)
shotgun (I recommend mossberg 500 series)
.22lr rifle (I recommend ruger 10/22)
freedom rifle (I recommend a BCM ar-15 with a quality red dot and a quality light)
precision bolt rifle (I recommend remington 700)
buy ammo montly even when you aren't shooting. when you go to the range, try and come home with more ammo than you went there with.
smaller conceal handgun
precision ar-15
Buy once, cry once. If you do this you will still end up with a box of bullshit you've bought, but it will be smaller.
get insurance.
watch tons of youtube videos on guns, gun reviews, defensive doctrine and the constitution.

The only one I disagree with is the Glock. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Glocks, but for first 9mm I would recommend FN 509 tactical!! They’re amazing. Awesome in hand feel, lateral recoil, threaded barrel from the factory, 24 round mags from the factory. Like I said, not hating on Glocks, just prefer the feel of the FN!
Fair enough. I want an FN 509 MRD med as my next purchase. But, I'm actually in a ban state and so is op... he's not getting tactical goodies or reg cap mags for a handgun.
The only reason I suggest a Glock 19 as #1 is that when you diversify your handguns with the likes of CZ, FN, Sig etc, that Glock is still going to have a purpose. Parts are always available because there are so many around. I look at my glock like I look at my hammer, its just a tool. Put a good light and some night sights on it and call it done.
Also worth noting that in unfriendly jurisdictions, if you have to use a gun in self defense, a no frills gun might look better to a jury than a tactical space gun.
Yeah, I forgot about unfriendly states.... (sadness intensifying) 🥺
I agree with you there, parts availability and price are a def pro for Glocks! You put my beloved FNs in the same category with CZs...?? (Sad face) lol! Hammer comment checks out, have used my 21 as a hammer before!!! Haha
