No. They always wear masks. But not because they care about the Chinavirus. It's so they can't be identified when they are criminaling. They've been wearing masks for decades. It means nothing.
Fun Facts that your friend might find interesting: The masks don't actually protect you from the virus. They just keep you from expelling saliva onto other people. Viral and bacterial particles can still pass through. In fact, this year the CDC is imploring Americans to get the Influenza vaccine because of Covid. In a normal flu season tens of millions of people contract the illness but only about 60,000 people die from it. However, catching either one can make you more vulnerable to dying from the other.
If the CDC actually believed that masks worked, they would be expecting a dramatically reduced flu season (it will be normal) and they wouldn't be so damn worried about these two diseases colliding in patients.
(on a side note: when this thing first hit, I did a MASSIVE amount of research on masks that would protect you from transmitting this disease and short of a N95 level full face covering...nothing would stop you from being susceptible.)
Masks help to keep you from inhaling large corona infected water droplets. There is a difference in disease severity if the droplet lands in the lungs vs eyes. Also infection dosage matters and can be the difference between asymptomatic infection vs getting hit hard. But main purpose of masks is to keep infected people from coughing up large water particles into air.
