Airline pilot here, that is not circulated for hours. It’s 100% new fresh air in the cabin every 3 minutes. An airplane is a pressure vessel that leaks constantly though the windows, doors, baggage compartment, as well as valves that are designed to allow air to escape. The engines are basically giant compressors and we borrow some of that compressed air (before the hot section where we burn fuel) and use that air to pressurize the cabin as well as NACA vents that bring in fresh out from outside (that is traveling at 300 mph) into the cabin as well.

Fun fact, those masks that drop from the ceiling in case of depressurization at altitude will only provide 13 minutes of oxygen and is oxygen provided from solid chemicals (not tanks of oxygen) that produce pure oxygen.

EXACTLY. When we are sitting at the gate we get A/C via from an A/C unit attached to the jet bridge via a tube that connects to the plane. Until the engines are on we don’t have any A/C although the APU can provide A/C it’s not pushing as much air as the engines

Yes, but does that really matter? It's not a negative pressure room, so the old air is constantly mixing with new air, diluting it, but not necessarily replacing it. But you also have humans re-polluting it constantly.

You might circulate the volume of air that fills the cabin every 3 minutes, but I'm REALLY Skeptical that it has any scientific impact on disease spreading

Same

Air circulates, for sure, but, according to the you, after 3 minutes, you will get new air.

But if you are sitting close to one infected passenger, for 2 hours of flight, at least... ????

Would you go on a flight if I tell you that one passenger is infected? Yes or no?

Yes. 1 I am not afraid of this virus. 2 I have I’m an airline pilot I’ve been flying through this whole scamdemic and been fine.

Me too: I am not afraid of the virus. If you under 60, there' nothing to worry much about this virus.

But this does not change the hypocrisy of the CDC: packed planes can fly with no checks, from anywhere to anywhere, to spread the virus.

But, you can't go to church, gym, school or vote in-person.

I understand this as well. Being in a plane is actually pretty safe, although I get the OP’s overarching point. Nothing should be shut down as this 100% political.

Restaurants, bars, and churches are where people often discuss politics without being censored.

Air is replaced every 3 minutes or less on every commercial jet in the US

Air is not recirculated on passenger airplanes.

Cabin air is not recirculated through the HVAC system. Fresh air pushes cabin air out. This according to 737, 767 pilot. It could be that it takes 3 min for air flow to replace cabin air.

But yes, if you sit next to infected passenger and that passenger is coughing then you better hope you are lucky.

If that passenger is not coughing or asymptomatic, then yes. Are they letting visibly sick people get on ?

Simple question: would fly on a plane if I tell you one person is infected (asymptomatic) and sits close to you, for 2 hours flight, with air moving rapidly, and taking 3 minutes to be replaced? Yes or no?

Yes. But I would not feel comfortable, obviously. If that person is not coughing, is wearing a mask then your chances of getting infected are low. But also I do not plan to fly until i get a vaccine. Skipped vacation this summer. Part of it is fear of getting infected, part is I would hate to have the mask on for that long.

Someone needs to show this to the attorneys of John MacArthur’s church in Los Angeles. They are being fined by the state of California. In fact I will send it to my pastor who is holding church services online.

Traveling to the beach is more essential than your right to freely practice your Christian religion. Good thing we have men like John Roberts to help us navigate this confusing world.
