Have a friend whose kid just graduated from there, and apparently is one of the few who actually wants to be a pilot. This was the first class that got in from the lottery. I think before that you had to test and/or interview. I think a lot of parents looked at it as a way to get their kid a private school-like STEM focused education without the cost (since this is a public high school). I didn’t even know about this school until my friends hopeful pilot kid was applying via lottery, but then found out a couple other people were trying to get their kids (smart and capable kids, but no specific interest in aviation) in there. So, yeah, I think because it was apparently somewhat elite and selective... can’t have that!
Yes, Raisbeck. Although admission is now thru lottery and not interest or involvement in aviation.
That's definitely how you make the best of the best. Random chance. These kinds of policies for sure haven't been contributing to America's decline.
